Peru extends ban on the entry of transgenic products until 2035
The Peruvian Congress promulgated Law No. 31111 on Wednesday, January 6, which extends the ban on the entry and production of transgenic products in the country by 15 more years, extending the moratorium imposed on these products until December 31, 2035.
The day before, Parliament had announced that it would enact the aforementioned law with the aim of protecting the country's biodiversity and promoting family farming.
Transgenic organisms may not enter or be produced in the country, but they may be used for research. They may also be used as pharmaceutical and veterinary products that are governed by specific standards and international treaties.
