Stankard, whose paperweight artwork is represented in more than 60 museums around the world, enrolled in the what-was-then-named Salem County Vocational Technical Institute’s scientific glassblowing program in 1961. During his 10-year scientific glassblowing career, he became a master of fabricating complex instruments. In 1972, he left industry to pursue creative glasswork full time.
