ODOT approves nearly $1 million grant to complete Heartland Trail gap

ORRVILLE Rails to Trails of Wayne County and the city took one more significant step toward closing the gap on the Heartland Trail with a nearly $1 million grant.
The Ohio Department of Transportation approved a $947,972 grant through the Transportation Alternative Program to complete Phase 3A of the recreational trail, which will fill the gap between Allen Avenue and Forrer Road.
"We are very grateful for the news that we will receive this grant from the ODOT Transportation Alternative program. This will allow the Heartland Trail to check off one of two locations that are still presenting difficult challenges," Mayor David Handwerk said in a media release.
