Stabbing in November 2018
On Nov. 15, 2018, Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to a stabbing inside a travel trailer in the 16800 block of Southeast Ninth Street in Silver Springs.
When deputies arrived, they found Jeremiah Mills in the living room with stab wounds to the chest. Mills was taken to a hospital and died two days later. He was 19.
Jones was charged with second-degree murder.
Jones sought protection from Florida's "stand your ground law," and hearings were held on May 19 and June 17.
Accounts of what happened
Detective Billy Burleson interviewed Jones, who reportedly said he stabbed Mills because the victim "jumped" at him, according to the judge's written ruling.
