ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— A clerical error declared a New York woman dead by mistake, and it's now causing financial headaches for her.
95-year-old Ann Mazze of Long Island is still very much alive, however, the Nassau County Department of Assessment recently recorded her as dead. That caused her to lose exemptions that helped lower her tax bill.
Mazze's taxes have now increased nearly 300%, something she can't afford to pay. The county admits to making the mistake but says it will take some time to correct the issue.
Mazze says she has been dealing with this since February and is tired of waiting.
