 Championship Page Live Timing Watch  TALLAHASSEE, Fla.    –  The NR/No. 24 Florida State cross country teams will look to qualify for the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships, by racing in the South Region Championships in Huntsville, Ala., at the John Hunt Park on Friday. The women’s 6k will start at 9:30 a.m., followed by the men’s 10k at 10:30 a The 24th-ranked women currently hold the No. 2 spot in the region, behind No. 7 Alabama. The Seminoles will be looking for their fifth straight bid to the NCAA meet on Friday. “The ladies enter this regional meet ranked second, which is a very exciting position to be in,” FSU women’s distance coach Baylee Mires said. “We’ll face some tough teams that are certainly talented that will be gunning for our spot, so we must put it together on the day. We have been building all season for this moment and I know our women are ready to race well.” The men’s team sits in fourth in the region and will be looking to pull off an upset to qualify for its second straight NCAAs. “We’re definitely a top-four team in this region,” FSU head coach Bob Braman said. “We’ll likely need to get one of those two automatic spots if we’re going to make nationals. Alabama and Tennessee are projected top 10 teams, so we’ve got to pull and upset.” Live timing will be available as well as a live stream of the race. Last Time Out Both teams ran well at the 2022 ACC Championships that were held in Earlysville, Va. The women placed fifth in the 6k and the men took ninth in the 8k in one of the toughest ACC fields that saw 15 teams carrying a ranking or receiving votes at the time of the start. Three Seminoles captured All-ACC honors, finishing in the top 21. Fearghal Curtin produced a season-best in the 8k, crossing the line at 23:25.6 for 21st. “Fearghal has a great chance to make NCAAs individually,” Braman added. “He qualified last year, so he knows what’s needed.” Emmy van den Berg finished in 13th place with her best time of the season at 20:00.4 in the 6k and Agnes McTighe turned in her personal record of 20:14.2 for 18th.
