REGIONAL — The number of new COVID-19 infections in the area trended lower today, with Nobles County reporting 12 new cases during the 24-hour period that ended at 4 p.m. Sunday. Cottonwood County reported 11 new cases, Murray County, five, and Jackson, Pipestone and Rock counties each reporting two new cases. Statewide, another 3,026 individuals tested positive for the novel coronavirus during the period, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.
Across Minnesota, 18 deaths were reported from complications of COVID-19 during the 24-hour period — the lowest number of deaths from the virus statewide since Nov. 30. Among the dead were seven individuals who resided in private residences, and 11 individuals in long-term care facilities. There have now been 4,462 Minnesotans lost to COVID-19, including 2,917 residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities.
