About 22 per cent of Nigerians have experienced a ransomware attack in 2021, as the average total cost of recovery jumps to $1.85m from $761,106 in 2020.
This was disclosed by Sophia in its State of Ransomware 2021 survey, which polled 5,400 IT decision-makers in mid-sized organisations in 30 countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Though the number of ransomware attacks reduced from 53 per cent in 2020, 39 per cent of Nigerian respondents that weren’t hit by ransomware in 2021 expect to be hit in the future, with the sophistication of the attacks making it increasingly hard to stop.
