New Bedford House Fire at Bonney Street Deemed Arson
An early-morning New Bedford fire in a vacant three-story wood-frame house was intentionally set, according to Acting Fire Chief Scott Kruger.
An investigation into the Jan. 27 blaze at 124 Bonney St. is now being conducted by the city's Fire Investigation Unit, the New Bedford Police Department, and the State Fire Marshals Office, Kruger said.
Shortly after midnight Wednesday, multiple 911 callers reported a structure fire in the area of Jason Court and Bonney Street. Upon arrival, Engine 6 reported flames extending from the rear of a vacant three-story wood-frame dwelling.
The location made access difficult as the burning building was located behind two adjacent residences and at the end of a small dead-end street, the fire department said on social media. Photos from the scene show firefighters working in the slush and snow.
