A dispute about allowing dogs on a popular south coast beach has turned nasty, with signs defaced with offensive messages and claims by dog owners that they have been “made to feel like criminals in our own backyards”.
Public signs indicating an off-leash dog area at Narrawallee Beach were defaced with the words “Dog Shit, Poofters Beach” and “Poofters Dog Shit” amid growing hostility between dog owners and other beach users.

Shoalhaven City Council voted this month to ban dogs from two public walkways leading to the beach near Mollymook and modify the off-leash dog area on the sand.
