Chris Vallillo is a singer-songwriter, roots musician and historian whose contributions to music history in the rural Midwest arguably have made him a notable part of the narrative he seeks to document.
On Wednesday, he’ll bring a bit of Illinois’ musical past to life as part of the Illinois College Fine Arts Series.
First, a bit of Vallillo’s history.
In 1987, Vallillo took on the Schuyler Arts Folk Music Project to document the last musicians of the pre-radio generation, covering from around 1880 to around 1940. His recordings for that project now are in the Library of Congress’ American Folklife Collection.
