Mobile County sheriff denies claims in federal sex harassment suit

Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran said Monday the federal lawsuit filed last week against him and his office alleging sexual harassment by inmates against female corrections officers were not adequately handled has no merit and the office will fight the suit.
“We plan on defending it,” Cochran said of the lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice. “We think that we’re doing things properly in the jail.”
The lawsuit claims female corrections officers at the Mobile County Jail were sexually harassed by inmates and that supervisors did not take steps to prevent the abuse.
