The trial of Marvin Esquivel Lopez, charged with killing a mother and her two children in his Des Moines home almost two years ago, ended in mistrial Thursday after the jury was unable to reach a verdict on two of the three charges.
Esquivel Lopez, 31, went on trial last week for three charges of first-degree murder for the slaying of Rossibeth "Rosie" Flores-Rodriguez, 29, and her two children, Grecia Daniela Alvarado-Flores, 11; and Ever Jose Mejia-Flores, 5. The jury began deliberations Friday afternoon, and by Wednesday told the judge they had reached a verdict as to the killing of Flores-Rodriguez, but remained "very far apart" on the other two charges.
