Mercedes-Benz USA announced over the weekend that it's recalling 1.29 million vehicles sold between 2016 and 2021 due to a software problem.
As Reuters reports, Mercedes discovered that when a crash occurs the power supply to an affected vehicle's communication module can suffer a "temporary collapse." The knock-on effect being the current location of the vehicle can be reported incorrectly during an emergency call. The manual and automatic emergency call features of these vehicles still functions, but they are of little use if emergency services are rushing to the wrong location.
The vehicles covered in the recall include 2016-2021 models of the CLA-Class, GLA-Class, GLE-Class, GLS-Class, SLC-Class, A-Class, GT-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, CLS-Class, SL-Class, B-Class, GLB-Class, GLC-Class, and G-Class.
