The new ArtsaRound Gallery on the Original Circle in Circleville welcomes ArtsaRound Scholarship winner and local student Genevieve Carstensen for a main-floor gallery event. The show, titled “Medieval to Modern – Fashions from Art,”
will start April 9 and run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through April 26, 2021. The gallery is located at 135 W. Main Street
in the heart of Historical Downtown Circleville.
Inspired by works of art from different time periods, Genevieve created a unique collection that gives life and shape to the garments in the 2D works of art.
“My process began by imagining unseen elements of the pictured garments. I planned the 3D designs, drafting, draping and fabric engineering to create an original pattern, plus researching historical materials and techniques,” says Genevieve. “I found many were cost prohibitive, too time consuming or unavailable. I used a mix of authentic materials and modern substitutes including chiffon, damask, lamé, organza, glass beads, ribbons, trims, faux pearls and jewels.” Hand beading, batik dying and applique were used as embellishments.
