Ever heard of Thomas Brooks Farm? Few Medford residents have. But that's about to change.
The Medford City Council tentatively approved appropriations for the Community Preservation Commission to implement early phases of a Master Plan for Thomas Brooks Farm at a Jan. 26 meeting.
A formal vote will take place Feb. 2 because the item was not on the official agenda for Jan. 26. The matter was discussed during a Committee of the Whole meeting and spilled into the formal council meeting at 7 p.m.
Members are amenable to the request for $200,000 restoration of a 1,000 foot Field Stone Wall; $50,000 for restoration of the red-brick Pomp’s Wall or the Old Slave Wall and $50,000 for an archeological dig on the site, which the Historical Commission’s Project Overview describes as a “six acre wooded landscape bordered by the Lowell Branch of the MBTA Commuter Rail tracks. It is currently a passive recreation area and a rich history that is greatly obscured. This project seeks to bring that history to light and implement select improvements over multiple years.”
