Massive snowstorm continues to pummel NYC amid state of emergency

Snow continues to fall in Queens on Monday, Feb. 1, 2021.
NEW YORK — Folks using a grade school ruler to measure the snow in much of the New York City area on Monday needed something a little longer after the region got walloped by a massive storm that slowed or shut down everything from libraries to local subway service.

A massive blizzard slamming the New York City area Monday morning had already dumped 5.3 inches of snow as measured in Central Park as of 7 a.m., the National Weather Service said.
