The former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has denied media reports that his failure to investigate some National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs for allegedly taking double salaries led to his resignation in 2020.
Describing the reports as “barefaced lies”, Amidu is pointing fingers at the current Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Dame, as being behind what he describes as “politically inspired propaganda” to tarnish his image.
In a six-page statement to the media, Amidu said the case was never referred to him while in office, adding “any experienced and ethical person who has ever occupied the office of Deputy Minister of Justice under the Constitution knows that the Attorney General never sends a docket to another independent investigatory or prosecutorial agency without a covering letter.”
