Commissioners Kathy Bryant and Michelle Stone voted against the deal, which passed 3-2 on Tuesday.
You call this a partnership?
Bryant's main complaint is that the rent increase isn't appropriate for two governments that are supposed to be working together – especially on important issues like public safety.
The lease allows county paramedics and EMTs to use two bunk rooms and a supply area. They also can use common areas, such as the kitchen, workout room and showers/restrooms, but only subject to availability and after coordinating with an Ocala Fire Rescue captain.
"We should be doing this as a partnership. We are working in partnership; we're providing services to the citizens of Marion County," Bryant said at Tuesday's commission meeting. "And it certainly doesn't cost them $1,180 a month for us to be in two offices as a place where our guys can go to sleep in the middle of the night when they're not running calls."
