Morning, people of Marietta! It's me again, Christopher Schmitt, your host of the Marietta Daily. Here's everything happening today in Marietta.
First, what the next three days of weather look like:
Saturday: Mostly sunny. High of 79, low of 62.
Sunday: Partly cloudy. High of 86, low of 65.
Monday: Partly cloudy. High of 91, low of 69.
Marietta fun fact of the day:
A number of Marietta newspapers had a history of using racial slurs. Of course, this was well within the time when it was socially acceptable in the nation to do so. In 1904 the Marietta Leader had a habit of referring to Italians as Dagoes. Some didn't like that Italians has a sizeable representation in Marietta. The Marietta Leader once said "In this city, most of the foreigners are Italians and to the average man they are disgusting people. While it is true they don't exercise the same care about personal appearance that Americans do, they are not as black as they pictured...It is not generally known that there is a distinction between Italians from the north and south of Italy, yet such is the case. A man from the north would no more mingle with his countryman from the south than an educated American mingle with the street beggar...The Italians seen in this city in the fruit stand is not the common kind, but one from the northern part of Italy."
