Ten MLAs belonging to the Kuki-Zomi-Hmar community in Manipur are expected to miss the August 29 assembly session due to safety concerns following ethnic violence in the region. Two ministers from this community, Letpao Haokip and Nemcha Kipgen, have also been affected by the violence, with their homes being burnt down. Kipgen has requested leave from the session citing law and order issues. The Kuki MLAs are seeking separate administration for the tribals, and there is fear among tribal leaders and the general public about visiting Imphal, the state capital.
