Luzerne County has received nearly $9.5 million in federal funding to assist people struggling to make rent due to hardships created by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Luzerne County Office of Community Development.
The funding, which originated from the Consolidated Appropriations Act, is channeled through the U.S. Treasury Department and will allow tenants as well as landlords to seek relief.
âIt can be used for rent and utilities for people who were adversely affected by the pandemic,â Executive Director Andrew Reilly said. âWe are in the process now of putting together a program.â
The Commission on Economic Opportunity will assist in administering the program once the application process has been set up, he said.
