As a true victim of capitalism, I’ve had to work on myself in recent years to reduce my level of consumption. And by consumption, I mean buying stuff. It is far too easy to convince me that something is going to change my life, and it is absolutely worth the frankly ludicrous price because it’s beautifully made — look at the packaging! You’re buying an experience. Obviously I’m not impervious, and sometimes the thing is an experience, and does make my daily life feel better, but too many times I’ve found myself gazing upon all the things I thought would change my life and thinking, ‘I could have gone on a holiday with all that money.’
