Several Cape organizations have stepped up with donations to the Housing Assistance Corporation's Workforce Relief Fund, just as the state's eviction moratorium is expected to be lifted at the end of the month.
The corporation recently received $80,000 in donations to the fund, which offers money to help keep residents struggling to pay their rent or mortgaged housed during the pandemic.
Created when COVID-19 first started to affect the region, the fund offers one-time emergency assistance payments to year-round residents who are experiencing a gap between their incomes and eligibility requirements for governmental programs.
The Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation donated $50,000, the Cape and Islands Association of Realtors donated $20,000 and Shepley Wood Products donated nearly $10,000 to the fund. Barnstable Brewing also kicked in money from sales of its Civic Rent lager.
