Attorney Linda Harris will announce Friday that she is challenging Amy Weirich for election to the position of Shelby County District Attorney General in 2022.
Harris is currently an independent conflict resolution mediator and arbitrator, but has previously worked as federal judicial law clerk to the late U.S. District Court Judge Jerome Turner, a veteran prosecutor with the U.S. Attorneys in the Western District of Tennessee and as a private practice constitutional law and civil rights attorney. She has also worked as a Memphis police officer.
"The record number of homicides in Shelby County last year proves that the current “tough on crime” policies are not working," reads a news release from the committee to elect Harris. "...The clock is ticking, and Shelby County deserves someone who will work for the people and with the people to develop ways to become “smart on crime” in our community."
