Because firetrucks need to get to fires and ambulances need to get to the sick and injured.
The National Weather Service as of Tuesday night characterized the storm as “major,” even though it cut its prediction for the Lehigh Valley to 15 inches, with higher amounts to the north in the Pocono Mountains and extreme northern New Jersey. Forecasts earlier in the day had called for as much as 2 feet of snow in parts of the region.
