CONTROVERSIAL BILL THAT WOULD ALLOW NURSE PRACTITIONERS TO PRACTICE WITHOUT OVERSIGHT FROM A DOCTOR IS BEING DISCUSSED IN BATON ROUGE HOUSE BILL. 495 WAS SCHEDULED TO BE HEARD IN THE FULL SENATE TODAY, BUT IT GOT DELAYED THE BILL WOULD GET RID OF THE CURRENT CPE OR COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE AGREEMENT THE AGREEMENT REQUIRES ASE NUR PRACTITIONER TO HAVE A DOCTOR AVAILABLE BY PHONE AND THEY MUST ALSO PAY THE PHYSICIAN OFEE F FOR THE AGREEMENT NURSE PRACTITIONERS SAY IT’S TIME TO LET THEM PRACTICE INDEPENDENTLY WHILE DOCTORS SAY THE WOULD NOT PROTECT PATIENTS. OTHER STATES THE DISTRICT OF LUMBIACO AND THE VA MEDICAL CENTER HAVE ALL REMOVED THIS CONTRACT. SOME STATES HAVE HAD THIS CONTRACT REMOVED FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS. THEPE C IS REALLY A PROTECTION FOR THE CITIZENS OF LOUISIANA. IT KEEPS THE PHYSICIANS INVOLVED IN YOUR HEALTH CARE. IT'’ A SETAFY LINE. IT’S BUILT-IN PROTECTION FOR THE PATIENT. SO I WE PASS HOUSE BILL 495, IT TAKES AWAY THIS PROTECTIONS FOR OUR PATIENTS. SO THOSE IN FAVOR OF THE BILL ALSO CLAIMED TSHI WLDOU EXPAND HEALTHCARE TO RURAL AREAS, BUT DOCTORS SAY STUDIES SHOW. OTRWHEISE, ONCE AGAIN, THE BILL IS HEADED TO THE FULL SENATE AND THEN IT WOULD GO BACK
