The local train service in Mumbai was open for limited hours for the general public before the onslaught of the second wave.
However, in the wake of the second COVID-19 wave, the local trains in Mumbai were closed for the general public. Later, on June 21, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Vijay Wadettiwar had said that the general public won't be able to commute in Mumbai local trains till the pandemic is over.
However, the demands for opening the local train service have been raised by Mumbaikars. Now, Maharashtra BJP leader Pravin Darekar on Sunday said the saffron party will launch protests if the state government doesn't allow people who have taken two doses of COVID-19 vaccine to travel by suburban trains in Mumbai.
