But whether it comes to the secondary streets, here in media or elsewhere, in philadelphia, as well, and in other areas, across the region , there are some slippery areas, some slick spots, due to the slushy conditions. And all of this is left over from a very messy evening commute last night. Nightmareish gridlock. I was on 95, i was on 76, it was it was as bad as ive ever seen it. During the evening commute, as snow began to fall across the region. Blue route, took us about an hour and a half. Just to get up to city line avenue, with was another hour and a half. Yes, it was really bad. Cheryles trek home included a spin out, she says, and plenty of slow traffic. Bumper to bumper, bumper to bumper, cars, earlier, it was anybody was sliding, it was crazy, like we literally had to take our time, had my hazard lights on. Traffic also snarled in center city around 15th to 17th and jfk boulevard. And 15th and 16th and the parkway due to inoperable traffic lights. It has been very long day. In south philly, penndot could be seen preparing salt trunks, across the bridge in camden county, crews say theyre red. I were ready to go, our guys are always ready to go, 24 hours, coffee brewing, and ready to hit the road. Im also seeing some complaints on social media about how long it took to get home during the commute yesterday. Luckily, right now, the main roads are looking okay. But, especially on those hills and some of the secondary streets. Theyre still a little bit slippery. Thats just something to keep in mind, as you head out the door this morning. Now, ton developing story this morning, firefighters rush to battle a big fire in cumberland county, new jersey. Flames broke out inside of this home on the 500 block of in cedar ville overnight. Quickly grew to three alarm, fire officials were able to get it naught about 30 minute, now trying to figure out what sparked the flames, at last check, no injuries. Meantime, fire forced evacuation after retirement community, in newtown square. Chopper three, over dunn woody village on west chester pike. Now there is call came in just before 9 30 last night. The flames were under control in a short time. Here, as well. Officials evacuated this village because of smokey conditions. There were no injuries reported, just yet, and so far , no word on what caused this fire. A grand jury is calling on Penn State University to change greek life culture on its campus. This comes after the drinking death of 19 year old fraternity pledge, Timothy Piazza, in may. Eyewitness News Reporter cha nteelans. The grand jury, frankly, was was appalled, to the extent of the bold ness of the haze that happened in that house. Stacey parksmill is her talking about the release of the grand jurys report on the Fraternity Culture at Penn State University. The 144page document outlines the grand jurys conclusions and recommendations since the deadly hazing of 19 year old Timothy Piazza. The sophomore died on may 5th after a night of heavy drinking, while pledging at the Fraternity House on Beta Theta Pi. Thomas kline, the attorney for tim piazzas parents packed the grand jury report. They are whole heart educationally committed, whole heart educationally, with every ounce of their energy, in to seeing that another son or daughter doesnt come home in a coffin. The grand jury found that hazing within the Greek Community at penn state was rampid and pervasive. The report makes 12 recommendations, among them, establishing a hazing hotline, strengthening the law for furnishing to minors, and strengthening penn state hazing policy. Since piazzas death the university has already adopted 15point plan, meant to address hazing misconduct, illegal consumption of alcohol the school also proposed implement i University Staff spot check team to patrol fraternity tis for safety regulations, the attorneys say shouldnt be held criminally responsible for piazzas death because they claim their clients didnt force piazza to drink the alcohol. In a statement red allowed by tom kline decline, and pea ass parents zero efforts dis agree. Tim will not be with us this coming Christmas Day due to the failures at penn state and the criminal activity of those charged. Since timothe piazzas death, the school has band his fraternity. Delaware officials have agreed pay more than seven and a half Million Dollars to settle a lawsuit over a prison standoff that left a guard dead. Six inmates were charged with first degree murder and assault in the death of guard steven floyd. The standsoff happened at the James T VaughnCorrectional Center in smyrna back in february, now, under the settlement, 11 plaintiffs, including Six Department of correction employees, and floyds relatives, will share the money. And an investigation is now underway, after a sanitation worker was caught on camera appearing to steel someones package, a woman posted this surveillance video, to facebook, on thursday night, after her neighbor asked about a package he was expecting. This happened on the 2100 block of oakdale street in philadelphias kensington neighborhood. So the video apparently shows a sanitation worker taking a package off someones stoop there, then throwing it into the garbage truck. Before it can get crushed, the driver appears to remove it. The city is now investigating. Temple University Police now have a person of interest after several racist flyers were posted around the school s campus. The flyers, seen here, appear to blame africanamericans for bernie sanders, not winning the presidency. A racial slur was written on it in large letters, Campus Police have released surveillance photos, showing the person they suspect of posting these flyers, theyre asking anyone with helpful information to come forward. President trump may get his tax reform bill passed in time for christmas. After last minute negotiation rating and revising the massive overhaul measure, it looks like the gop is nearing a deal. This is our 11th annual toyota hauling away hunger tundra food drive. Loaded with thousands of pounds of donated food. Which feeds up teen amount of people in the city of philadelphia. The 11th year of the toyota hall away Hunger Campaign. We started out with five trucks, couple of dealers that got involved with it. Paul mueller is the Association President , and sales the donation drive has been growing ever since. Were doing the best we can to help as many people as we can. All of this food, enough to feed 350,000 people in our region, is being trucked back to philabundance headquarters. The problem is big. The response from people like toyota and the partners here, keeps getting little bigger. The executive director says the hunger problem is growing. Any help is welcomed. This hunger year around. We see it in the nine count thats we operate in, with the other partners, that we work with. This is everywhere. Fortunately, they are the companys that donate money for food, the pickup trucks to transport them to south philly, and the forklift operators, who donate their time. Drive started by two young siblings, who lost their cousin colt end, to a traumatic brain injury. Colt ends aunt tells Eyewitness News, the toy drive is both about the kids, and their parents. Colt end is in the hospital during the holidays. We realize how opinion it is just to give these par aint Little Something just a moment of somebody is thinking about us, somebody trying to make our life little easier, and trying to make the holidays little nicer for the kids. Kate bilo was here yesterday for holiday fest, and it was real a beautiful full scene with the snow coming down and in the little town every bethlehem. But you can see, the grassy areas, completely covered in snow it, has not melted yet. Now to live look at center city, dealing with kind of similar situation. It is cold outside. 25 degrees, right now, feels more like 15, southwest wind at ten, only takes the smallest bit of winds when temperatures are this cold, to make it feel even colder out there with the windchill. You know, it is incredible to be in one Star Wars Film in any capacity, thats absolutely incredible. But to be invited back for another one was very exciting. And in other news today, grand jury has issued a skating report on hazing and Fraternity Culture at Penn State University. It is in response to the alcohol fueled death of pledge Timothy Piazza. Center County District attorney, stacey sparks miller announced findings yesterday. In may, the grand jury recommended criminal charges after an intoxicated piazza fell and died inside of the Beta Theta Pi house. The report criticized the fact that fraternities there are not overseen by the university but by students through an inter fraternal council. What did we learn . The ifc selfregulation was a joke, and a catastrophe. The grand jury frankly was appalled to the extent of the bolds necessary of the haze that happened in that house. Since piazzas death, penn state has permanently banned his fraternity. The University Says it will not forget piazza as it continues efforts to change the greek life culture. A bucks county judge has ordered a man charged in the death of his two year old son to stand trial. In october, police say, Christopher Coon caused a crash while running from police after stealing from a walmart in tullytown. Authorities say coons son was in that vehicle, and died from injuries suffered during the crash. They say coon abandoned the toddler and fled the scene. Coon is scheduled for trial on march 26th. The United NationsSecurity Councils sill focusing its attention on north korea and its recent missile test. Yesterday secretary every state, rex tillerson, repled the us, backing away from a proposal to start diplomatic talks. Here is cbs news correspondent laura. Reporter secretary every state, rex tillerson, addressed the Un Security Council on what he calls the greatest threat to us national security. North korea. Our message today is one that this body has heard before and one that we will continue to repeat. The United States will not allow the regime to hold the world hostage. Last month, north korea launch bass ellis mick ill into waters of japan, but has the capacity to reach anywhere in the u. S. It was one of at least 20 missile launches north korea conducted over the past year. We believe that more can and must be done beyond enforcing the minimum requirements of the Security Council resolution. Democrats continue to say the tax cut largely benefit the rich, the final vote expected next week. Efforts to keep Health Insurance for thousands every pennsylvania children could be fruitless, if congress doesnt act. Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf was at Childrens Hospital of philadelphia, he resigned chip to childrens Health Insurance programs, how much, federal funding for the programs ran out in september, after congress failed to re authorize it. The governor says hes willing to work with congress on the bill. And i stand ready to help anybody in washington who want to understand how we can get some bipartisan work to refund this really important piece of legislation. The governor says, about 180,000 children are currently enrolled in chip. Right here in pennsylvania. 9 million children are enrolled across the country.
