Its of course, calm out here, but the whole thing is surrounded by these shipping containers, as it has been for a number of months now. Theres security outside on multiple corners here, but again, no protesters or anything like that. I want to show you how we got to this point. That is, until police moved in to clear out the park and then close it down, tearing down some temporary structures in the process, also arresting a number of protesters. And nowl months later, neighbors are just as frustrated as they were back in january. n i am truly disappointed by the muted response of our city leaders and the nonexistent, if not truly callous, response of s barred from starting construction at the park by the ongoing Supreme Court lawsuit, but they are allowed to put up fencing, which, as i mentioned, they did in early january. That is why there they are allowed to have those shipping containers that are up here right now up in surrounding the entire park. But protesters say the school shouldnt be allowed to close a sppark and build on a Historic Community space. Tensions ran high in early january of this year as protesters occupied the from taking place. That is,ctio until police moved in to clear the site. The then closed park tearing down temporary structures and even arrestingua number of protesters in the park. And now, months later, neighbors are just as frustrated as they were back in january. I am truly disappointed by the muted response of our city leaders and the nonexistent, if not truly callous, response of the uc berkeley. So right now, uc berkeley is barred from starting any construction on the park are alp fencing, which of course they did in the form of the shipping shipping containers. Excuse me . That are behind me. Well, some bay area cities are pushing back now against a decision by state regulators to expand selfdriving car Service BeyondSan Francisco. Ktvu Allie Rasmussen is here to explain that several cities and counties are pushing for a billuthat would give them more local control. Good morning alex. Good morning dave. Earlier light from state regulators to start expanding Service BeyondSan Francisco into San Mateo County in the angeles. And since then, the cities of oakland, and San Mateo County have called for the approval of a state bill that would give cities more say over how waymo and other selfmdriving Car Companies can operate on their local streets. Right now, the california dmv and the Public Utilities commission are the agencies that give Companies Like waymo permission to operate. California senate bill 915 would give cities the authority to issue their own local permits for those selfdriving Car Companies. Under sb 915, cities and counties would be able to limit how many selfdriving car could operate at any given time, and establish rules about when they could operate. Local governments could also add fees or Service Charges to pay for the enforcement of those local rules. Now, the bill was sponsored by state senator dave cortese of san jose and has the support of several local transportation agencies and local teamsters unions and San Mateo Countys board of supervisors, which filed an appeal with the california Public Utilities commission to put the brakes on expansion of those selfdriving cars in the county. What the bill tries to do is to put in Safety Measures to make sure that this expansion isnt so great in terms of numbers, but is something that is controlled right now. The bill is pending before the Senate Local Government committee in the california legislature, so no date has been set yet to hear or vote that bill out of committee. But the counties of san mateo and los angeles have filed an appeal with the cpuc to put a pause on waymo service. But while the state considers their appeal, waymo can continue operating in those counties. Pam. Thank you. Ali.
