No doubt about it. South breeze and you can see some activity te county, northern Sonoma County, napa and a little bit continues to flirt with marin county and right off the san mateo coast. Were seeing an unfortunate and dramatic uptick in Overdose Deaths. In marin county. Five Overdose Deaths tied to fentanyl in just the last two weeks. Normally andutragically, you know, we have about one overdose death every week. But prior to the last two weeks, county Public Health officer doctor matt willis says only around half of those deaths in these last five have all been related to fentanyl, and all have been among people who were using multiple substances spat once. Not strong, but its a south wind for most. It will turn southerly and you can see theres some light activity. Mendocino county, lake county, northern sonoma and napa and some around marin county as well, with a line just along the san mateo coast. So again, some of this may not amount to too much, but well keep it in the associated with this for today. It will mainly be to the north. I mean you can see theres some okay amounts being forecast farh and into the east. And ill buy that. The system is more north into the west than it is east and south. The blame is placed on declining enrollment, but facilities. Ktvu is christian. Kafton reports on why the district believes this move could help schools in the long terme San Francisco unified schools finds itself at a crossroads. The district is facing a structural budget crisis. At the same time, enrollment is dropping. The district now serves about 49,000 students, down from about 53,000 a decade ago. Fewer students means less money from the state superintendent, matt. Wayne says those realities need to be met head on, and that means beginning the process of closing and consolidating some schools. Were looking at the way we staff our schools, our central office, our school programs, our facilities, and also our School Portfolio. And were ready rising. We need to have a school, new School Portfolio with fewer schools. So we can better meet our goals for student outcomes. At this point, the district has not said which of its 120 schools will be closed or consolidated. We. Are talking to our input on what the criteria should be for our new School Portfolio and then also holding our values of Educational Equity at the center by doing an equity audit of our recommendations. Beth kelly is a mother in the district and has kept a close eye on San Franciscos school budgetc for years. When you look at what is happening with the district right now, they really have to get back to basics and really work on working within a with the district facing a very real fiscal cliff, this is one of the only moves the district had left. We really do have to have the right number of schools for the studentsuthat we have. Of that means more money going to each student rather than overhead and the district will spend the remainder of the school year and the summer finalizing a list of impacted schools. Theyuhope to have that plan in place for the 2025, 2026 school year in San Francisco. Kristin kafton, ktvu, fox two news okay christian, thank you. Our time is 447. A big step forward in the effort to recall price, the alameda County District attorney. What is next for the recall supporters what could lead to a special election . From ktvu fox two news. This is mornings on two. Well, good morning and thankuyou for joining us. Welcome to mornings im pam. Its tuesday march 5th. uit is primary day super tuesday a lot going on and people cannot complain about the weather forcing them away from the polls. Right. Its not that bad. Uh, thank goodness it wasnt lastc or Something Like that. Yes. 40s, 50s on the temps. Weve had some light rain to the north. Uh, theres its a lot going on, but occasionally some light rain. Santa rosa has had some looks initial impulse or two is kind of lifted, but theres a little bit out there and well keep that in the forecast. But a lot of cloud cover. More sun touthe south. This is a weak system. Its not going to be an impactful one at all. 50 low 60s to a few mid 60s, especially santa clara valley. All right. 5 00 still good. Something new. Yeah. Its still pretty good. We do have more people getting on the road, steve. Like highway four is a good example. Uh, and i do want to mention that looks like looks like i may have lost my clicker. Were going to go right to the triple a cameras here. Lets gouto highway 24. The triple a Traffic Camera showing westbound 24. Looking pretty good. Getting over to the tunnel. There have been no major problems there. And if youre driving to the toll plaza, uh, also, our triple a camera shows not a lot going on. So if you are driving on westbound 80 into San Francisco, it looks pretty good. Lets take a look at the san mateo bridge. You can see well. Heading out to the highyt rise at 5p1. Lets back to the headlines. All right. Thank you. Sal. It is super tuesday that means it is time to some of you have already sent in your ballots by mail or drop them off early. But ktvu is Amanda Quintana live at the santa clara registrar office, where we could see historically low voter turnout this year. Amanda yeah, thats what political analysts are saying. They are expecting low voter turnout for this primary election big reasoe over. Weve got the frontrunners right now, donald trump and President Biden. So a lot of people might feel like their vote really doesnt count in that respect. But there still are a lot of other local issues that are on the ballot. But historically, primary elections get a lot of older voters, but there are still a lot of issues that people could turn out for, including senate races. Now, weve been taking a look at voter turnout all over the bay area. Yesterday, there was a line of cars in alameda with people dropping off their ballots. Some voters in San Francisco preferred going to drop off their ballots at city hall, so questions if needed. Now, a large percentage of voters do chooseuto vote before today, i went around our building a few weeks ago to make sure everyone was registered to vote, and i had registration cards in case they werent. I knocked on doors today to say, have you voted . Have you voted . I want to make sure my i spoke to are all registeredt s and all of them have voted and voted by mail here in Santa Clara County, there are a couple items on the ballot that are getting a lot of attention. One is the congressional race to replace retiring representative anna issue. There are 11 candidates vying for that seat, including the former san jose mayor sam liccardo, Assembly Member evan lowe and Santa Clara County supervisor joe simitian. Theres also a measure to make the santa clara chief of police an appointed, rather than elected position. Santa clara is the only city in california that currently elects a police chief, so here this mog up with voters, also trying to get an idea of the current voter turnout kind of what it looks like compared to previous primary elections that weve had here in Santa Clara County. But if you do plan to vote by mail today, it doesuhave to be postmarked by 8 00 tonight. It still and then weve got all of the polling places opening up here soon. So we will be here in san jose making sure that we give you all that information throughout the morning. Live in san jose, Amanda Quintana, ktvu, fox two news. All right. Thank you, amanda, this is a busy week for President Biden who is keeping a close eye on todays results. And on thursday, the president will have a chance to connect with voters when he delivers his state of the Union Address. Now, the president , with an Approval Rating of just 42. Well, this address could be the most important speech of his reelection campaign. Millions of people are expected toube watching, so it will be the biggest tv audience. Hell get at least until the Democratic Convention in august. The white house says the president will focus on his economic agenda protections for womens reproductive rights and also uniting the country. I can tell you that the president is ready. Hes ready to take that moment to talk about the state of the union, to lay out his future vision of how he seest this next year and beyond. Now President Biden is preparing for the speech at his president ial retreat, camp david, and he has only thursdays big speech. California secretary of state Shirley Weber says her office is ready to deal with any voting issues that arise. Today. We want to make sure that people understand that that all these issues of fraud and deception, that we fought back every last one of them, all the cases, the 50 some odd cases that have gone to court, we have defeated them all because while we have a fair and clear elections, and we hope that everyone will take advantage of the process of voting, and if you want to go down and look at the process, all of our departments of or our registrar of voters have ways in which you can actually see and observe what is going on. Secretary weber says her biggest concern for the election is workers are testing andatet retesting the Voting Machines, and an it. It team is on standby if needed. The Sheriffs Office will release the body cam video at a later date. All right, our time is 508. T the weather is a lot better up up there is a lot easier. Lets look at the conditions right now. Interstate 80 is open again while theres still snow. As you can imagine, on the ground, visibility is a lot better. Chainsuare required on all vehicles headed east and west over donner passc. The trucks on highway 50 are being screened to make sure the drivers do have chains with them. All right. Reopening 80 comes as great news for people driving between the bay area and the sierra. Chp still urging drivers, though, slow down conditions have improved greatly. They can change, though, can still be icy, especially overnight. One couple in kingvale headed to reno says their chains were on properly. Weve just been taking it slow, you know, going 25, 30 miles an hour. The Highway Patrol is reminding people pull off the road when installing chains and understand that caltrans and pga crews are still working to deal with the impact of the storm that could affect all drivers, especially those in big rigs, need to Pay Attention about possibly spinning out dry ice and that black ice, i mean black ice, not dry ice. I knew it. If you havent hit black ice , um, you know it will make you slow down if youve hit it. Its cant see it, so it can be yout pretty icy, i cold up there. Still overnight hit black ice. Thats no picnic. No, no, you have no control. No you dont. Yeah all right, well take a look at the sierra snowpack,c end ofe could use a little help. February was kind and early march has been really kind. We are doing quite well now. Weve had plenty of rain, an alsouran on the snowpack. Now its at 111 of normal for the date for the northern sierra. Central sierra, which includes tahoe, is 104. Southern sierra still playing catch up there, but still now 94. So statewide information as of yesterday, though, if you melted all that snow down and youd get a water equivalent of over 24in of liquid last year, though, i think it was up to 54. So while weve made improvement, were still not close to last year, but still it is 104 now. Percent of average. So looking good. No, no d word issues going forward. Thats for sure. And even a little bit more rain here. Although it does look like systems are getting weaker and spweaker. And maybe well get a little turn off of the tap here as we go into the next week or south breeze for most. Almost everyone now is in on a southerly breeze front direction. Even though this is a weak system, theres still some light activity, especially in marin county. Not a lot kind of hanging out there a little bit. Also along the san mateo coast. E some light rain. It wouldnt ca. But for today most of the focus south. Tomorrow though that that that shifts areas to the north will be on the drier side. Areas south might see a little more as this system right there is going to do this. It will head right towards us and then do that start to head down. This is not a system for the sierra. So dont dont look at misleading headlines or preparing for another storm. No, theyre not, uh, a little bit of rain. More s pedestrian stuff. Now, theres light amounts here. Nothing big is showing up here on any of the extended models, but it does look like maybe the weekend and early next week we coulduget back into some rain, but nothing too heavy. A little warmer to the south with more sun, but some light rain to theunorth. 5060 onuthe temps. If you can hang in there. Thursday and friday look good. It looks like though. Cover though on the weekend. All right steve, thank you. Our time now. 512 Governor Newsom stopped in San Francisco. Critics of pamela price have submitted ten boxes of signatures, with more than 123,000 names, 50,000 more than needed. County officials now have ten days to validate those signatures and confirm that live in Alameda County. Recally organizers are confident they we shouldnt have to do this. But for the safety of our community and the safety of our children, uthe safety of our businesses, this is something that had to be done. Now pamela prices supporters are questioning how some of the signatures were collected. Her supporters first wrote to California Attorney general rob bonta, asking him to investigate allegations of deceptive tactics by the recall organizers. Now a letter has been sent to californias secretary of state, Shirley Weber, and weve asked her to ensure that she dedicates resources immediately to ensure that each and every signature is both reviewed independently and verified. Now, there is some uncertainty about how the recall vote will be done due to measure b being todays ballot. It would change Alameda Countys recall election laws to be similaruto the state of california. If ab passes, it would raise the threshold of signatures needed for a recall. Opponents of pamela price say no spmatter what happens, theyre confident there will be a recall vote. Our time is 517. Health officials in the north bay are warning after a recent rise in the number of Overdose Deaths, marin countys Health Department says five peopleuhave died in the last two weeks from fentanyl Drug Overdose before the recent spthose deaths were related to fentanyl. The layoffs are difficult, but they are necessary. Our time is 518. Lets get the latest check on tuesdays weather here, steve. All right. Thank you dave. We do have a lot of cloud cover a little bit of rain. Theres not much here, but ill mention it. Theres been some to the north here. Light also over marin county up north towards napa county. Mendocino county, lake county. But again, theres just not a lot of its trying to work its way in along the coast, the marin coast, San Francisco to san mateo. But again, these are these are not big systems. But today, maybe a little bit more to the north. That might be a slightly overdone. Then tomorrow it favors areas to the south because this low is going to go do just that. Now were getting a lot of whats called the warm front over us right now. But the low you can already see its starting to make its move here. And then itll do this. Itll go down the coast. So if youre east you may not get much, if anything at all. North near southc next 24 hours. Yeah. Youre in the window there. But a couple of systems on the way. None of them these are not events for this big time with only light amounts being forecast over the next week. So a lot of clouds. Kind of cold though. Still upper 40s. Light rain, mainly north. umostly cloudy to mostly sunny. Partly sunny. Southward this is all really about areas to the north for today. Then tomorrow well thicken up those clouds to the south. u5060 on the temps. So a lot of cloud cover in some light rain into wednesday a break thursday, friday. More cloud cover comes in on the weekend there. All right. See time is 520. San franciscos downtown mall will undergo more changes. Well tell you the latest stores that will be closing their doors. If you are feeling overwhelmed by nonstop pace ofudigital media and youre struggling to concentrate on a single task, popcorn brain may be to blame. Fox medical teams doctor mike joins us now. All right. Tell us what this popcorn brain is. Is well, i brought one. This is yourc brain on social media rigt way 62 of the worldsd by the populationuare on social media. And what that means is, is that that every five seconds youre seeing an ad pop up, youre seeing some different, uh, story pop up. Something or some other posting. And so what that does to the brain is that it releases small little micro doses of dopamine and it becomes addictive only becomes a habitual thing, but it also reduces things like your Attention Span. Now, in 2003, the averageutwo minutes. And 30u know what it is now . Now about 47 seconds. How do you like that . And most people think its due to social media and popcorn brain. I mean, ive seen this in my own kids who are now college age and a little out of college and studying, work. Our concentration on many things. So how do we improve move . I mean, were not going to get rid of social media. How do we improve our Attention Span . Well, im a big fan of the fact that you need to interact with people. Um, i, i everyone get emails. No you dont want td turkey. Uhl no ones going you t down a little bit on the time in front of a screen. And this has had profound effects on the vision of our young people, where they have trouble with with vision, because theyre always on a screen. It would be ideal to maybe this is a wild concept. Go outside and look at the sky and interact packed with people like we used ton like talking spand being close and interactig and getting all of those subtle, uh, uh, clues from people because youre looking at them rather than at a screen. And, and so that would be my advice. Decline in in time will improve. Move your attention will improve your cognitive. Focus and this is becoming a big, big, big problem. Okay. Yeah i can see that definitely happening. And instead of a quick text, maybe pick up the phone and call those loved ones and friends. It sounds like great, great advice doctor mike. Thank you. Highway four. Uh yeah, actually, highway four and bay bridge toll plaza. All of that getting crowded. Steve although the toll plaza for cisco toll plaza camera. There we go. And at the toll plaza. More peoplere are showing up. Steve asked about highway four. And you know what . I always acknowledge steve. When he asked for something. There it is. You can see it clearly from our triple a Traffic Camera. There uh, lets go to will show you north and southbound 880. That looks pretty good. And if youre heading down to the san mateo bridge, that traffic is moving. Well, heading out to the high rise, 531 lets get back to the headlines. Okay, sal. Thank you. Well,t and along with the campaigns for national, state and local offices, voters will decide the future of several controversial ballot measures. Ktvu is ali rasmus in San Francisco right now, where this morning some last minute get out the vote events will be happening. Good morning ali. Good morning daven yeah there are a total of seven local measures on the San Francisco ballot for voters to consider. And this morning, San Francisco mayor london breed will be out in the west portal neighborhood, encouraging voters to vote for at least three of them. Were do. Measure c would eliminateey the real estate transfer tax for building owners who convert commercial buildings. Think those high rise and high rises in downtown into a housing measure e would authorize the city to install public surveys cameras. It would give police more flexibility to use drones, facial Recognition Technology and chase people they believe committed violent crimes. On public assistance in the city to go through regular Drug Screening testsc and get Substance Abuse treatment, franciscos elections director says. So far, voter turnout from weeks of earlyuvoting and mail in ballots is about what it was four years ago. As of this morning was 17. Right now its matching the most recent president ial primary election as far as turnout is concerned. Now, 17 voter turnout sounds low. And it is, but there is spstill a full day to get throu. So, uh,uarntz says his Elections Office gets majority of the ballots. They count on on election day. He says most people in ballots at home and then drop them off in person at designated polling stationsn that is what i plan to do later today. And a lot of folks wait until that ballots. So whether you live in San Francisco orc anywhere else in the bay area, you have until 8 00 this evening to turn in person at your polling station,n or if you want to actually mail your mail in ballot by u. S. Postal service, just makeusure it is postmarked. No later than todays date. In San Francisco. Ali rasmus ktvu, fox two news. All right. Thank you. Ali, here in thec bay area polls atcs morning. And if you havent mailed in your ballot, you still can as long as its postmarked today. There are some drop boxes where you can take your ballot, or you can still actually vote in personn the voteruguide, the ballot, the drop off locations,. Ituwasr sphere than North Carolina or connecticut or arizona where ive lived before. As soon as mail in ballots have been coming in for days and Election Officials say so far they are seeing a low voter turnout, analysts say with the candidates in the democratic and republican primaries all but decided theree to get out now, 534 one of the biggest primary Election Races on the california ballot is the Us Senate Race. The top four candidates have been crisscrossing the state, campaigning to get out the vote. A newly released poll from berkeley igs shows republican and former pro baseball ahead of democratic congressman adam schiff for the first time, followed by Democratic House members katie porter and oaklands barbara lee. Im very proud of my record of delivering mass transit, bringing back millions to find Affordable Housing for people to help deal with the epidemic of homelessness. My efforts to pass californias patient bill of rights. But people have foundc a voie in me where theyreustanding up and saying, ive had it. Uh, we want to send seed back to washington. We want his voice. Washington needs to pay more attention to california, for we are the biggest state. Um, we have the most people. And are not always getting washington to focus on our issues. My campaign is a multiracial, multigenerational, Progressive Coalition race. The race to fill the senate seat held for years by the late senator dianne feinstein, is breaking spending records, according to adimpact, which tracks political spending more than 65 million is already adst Expensive Senate campaign in california history. Governor newsom made a stop at San Francisco union hall to gather support for the yes on proposition one campaign. The governor was joined by mayor london breed. Sacramento mayor darrell steinberg, and a coalition of Mental Health workers, doctors, and firefighters. If approved, prop one would allow the state to borrow 6. 4 billion. The money would be used to build Mental Health facilities and Supportive Housing for says it n support in the state legislature. We are in a position we havent been in 50 years to address this crisis. Thats why its so important to take this opportunity in this moment to not just assert ourselves, but to advance a paradigmuwhich i think meets this moment in a bipartisan in theusenate, but opponents questioned the constitutionality of propositioc one because they say it calls for forcing some mentally ill people on the streets into treatment programs. It is one of the biggest days for candidates battling for the white house, as polls open to correspondent rebecca castor is in falls church, virginia you fr joining us this morning. What is what do political analysts see as the significance of super tuesday. Good morning pam. Well itgs called super tuesday for a reason. It is the most important day for president ial candidates leading up to the president ial election. Because at the end of today, this could veryuwell decide who is going to move forward and be on that president ial ballot come november. Now none of the candidates are going to lock up that nomination for sure today. Theyre still going to need to pick up some more delegates donald trump and joe biden, win as many delegates as they can today, theyll still a little bit short of lockinguup the nomination completely. But if they do well today, the general election in november isupretty much set in stone. All right. Certainly the front runners. Lets talk about nikki haley, though. She won her first republican primary thisc week. Is this a make or break day for her campaign . It is a makeuor break day. This is her last chanceutot stop former President Donald Trump from racking up the delegatesuthat hell need to win this nomination. Committed to staying in this race past super tuesday, only saying that shes going to stay in the race as long as she still sees herself as competitive. But there are over 800 delegates up forugrabs today in the gop race. And if she does not getua good amount of those, then the math is just not going to add up for her to continue her campaign any further. Were talking a lot about voter turnout being down in is that seem to be the case across all of the super tuesday states, and how will that maybe impact the results . That is something that people are talking about. Sp this tuesday has been kindf deemed a snooze tuesday instead of super tuesday, because the excitement just really isnt candidates. I think a lot of people think that the race is already pretty much determined, so we could see that impact. Voter turnout across the country today. All right. Rebecca castor there in falls church, virginia. Thank you so much for joining us with all of that super tuesday herec in california as well. So we are watching this closely. All right, rebecca thank you. Time is 539 a lake that recentl formed in Death Valley National park is being closed off now to boats as it quickly evaporates. The National Park service says that lake, which was open to kayakers, is now two shallow park rangers say they dont want people to leave behind footprints or the marks from dragging their boats in the mud, which could stay there for years. Years. When the lake dries up, the temporary lake was formed by a hurricane after this winter storms, and at one point that lake was about a foot deep in some areas. But now its drying up. All right, weve had some extreme weather causing that, but i think its calmed down a paulson for our forecast. Stevet and remember about 10,000 years ago, there was a permanent lake there. I i dont either. It was a little bit. But you know why it dried up . No oh climate change. And itsug to this day. Its still changing millions of years. So the hurricane that was last august e stage. And then we had the winter storms in southern california. But now it doesnt all right. We have a lot of cloud cover coming over us here. And 40s and 50s onc that now. Te light rainn thisuisc not a big system. South breeze. I dont want to say wind, but breeze is in place there. Uh, you can see theres been some activity to the north, santa rosa and reporting some light rain. But again, this is not much to write home about. Been some over marin county. You can see that. And then it kind hanging out though also along the san mateo coast, San Francisco. So this well keep light rain in the forecast. Now it depends on which forecast model them are showing some light rain about ah of an rosa or the Santa Cruz Mountains going into later today and tomorrow. Not a lot there, but there will be some as the on wed then after that we get a break thursday and friday. Another system will drag across us over the weekend. Looks like a lot of cloud cover. Not much else. Best bet for rain to be on monday. Theseuare not big systems and they are not going to be big deals for the sierra nevada. Theres no big storm or theyre not bracing for another blizzard. Theres nothing like that. Lots of clouds chilly out there, light rain, mainly north, mostly cloudy, light rain, more sun south and warmer. So tomorrt the same. Then we get our break thursday and friday. A lot of cloud cover. Not much else. Although some light rain is in the forecast here. Its been hanging out over marin county. I dont think too much is there . But theres some trying to get its act together and also wegve had some to the north and along the coast. uagain, these this is a weak system. So any rain that falls will be generally light. A proposed law would continue to fund californias missing sppersons dna program. Now, stae attorney general rob bonta said the program is set to lose its funding this year due to a sunset clause, butua new bill introduced by Assembly MemberStephanie Nguyen of elk grove would ensure that the funding is permanent. Bonta says the program has identified more than 2000 missing people since it was established in 2001. Certainly theres nothing celebratory about this work, but the fact that weve identified over 2000 missing persons is meaningful. Its a reminder of what we can accomplish for the people of california when we have the appropriate resources. The missing persons dna program has been funded through proposition 69, which directed money from criminal fines. The proposed law would keep the current funding system in place. Our time now 555 advocates for Affordable Housing in oakland are pushing for more voter approved funding. The genesis workshop Worship Center in oakland provides housing for former inmates who are spreentering society. They say similar housing is needed to help people get back on their Regional Housing bond, and its being considered for the November Ballot. The proposed measure could raise 10 to 20 billion for the bay area. And if you were released from jail or prison and you have no to be able to literally rent a an apartment, especially with the not just Affordable Housing crisis, with the market rate housing crisis that we are having here, its very challenging. Now the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority plans to makeua decision by june as to whether to put that bond measure on the November Ballot. Rents may finally be coming down thanks to an Apartment Building boom, economist at redfin say renters can expect a break as landlords lower rates thanks toumore available properties. Rents reached record highs last year, largely due to high mortgage costs, but those rents have since gone down thanks to many newly built and vacant properties. Economists say the initial bump in prices were triggered by some americans relocating during the pandemic. All right, heres my favorite story. The company says its their version of super tuesday. Krispy kreme has locations in San Francisco, concord, daly city, pinole, fremont, mountain view, santa clara, brentwood, san jose and rohnert park. Voting so important to me. So if i could do it early, i want to make sure my neighbors go and vote. Area counties. Voter turnout has been low. Still, a lot of people are optimistic about the importance of making their voices heard. But you should know about todays California Primary Election race. Plus, recall price, urecall price, recall price. Thats not great because we,n against pamela price, the Alameda County , is moving on developments that could lead to a special election to remove pamela price from office from ktvu this is m. Well, good morning to you. Thank you for joining us. Welcome to mornings on two. Im dave clark. Good morning im pam cook. It is tuesday super tuesday march fifth. I just also looked at. Krispy kremes website just to double check the details. Democracy democracy today. Go deal with their donuts. All right. Lets check in with Steve Paulson for our forecast. I get it. North Sonoma County airport out towards the Russian River and also northward up into, well, northern Sonoma County. Its been some prettyt good amounts in the last 24 hours. They are exceeding others by far. Theres not a lot coming in here, but well keep some rain going on a super tuesdayl thats for sure. Uh, more rain, light rain north to steady rain. And then it looks like ituwill continue to stay there for today. Then slide tomorrow. 5060s on0 in the morning and he will begin. Where uh, lets start at the bay bridge. Steve, i just want to show you that the bay bridge cameras arec showing us slow traffic here as we go to our triple a Traffic Camera network. Here. You can see that westbound bay bridge, a little bit slow here at quite to the maze, but you are seeing some slow traffic for sure. Northbound 880, right before this picture, theres a stalled vehicle. In fact, you can kind of see it down there below. So they just moved it to the right side. Ituwas causing the side this is a look at theoo san mateo bridge that looks okay. No major problems, right now on the san mateo or bridge. Lets get back to the headlines. All right. Thank you. Sal. uit is super tuesday that havent already. Some of you have already sent in youruballots by mail or droputhem off early. Well, quintana is at the office of the santa clara registrar and is possible voter turnout couldube very low. Good morning. Amanda good morning. That is what political analysts are saying. Theyre projecting lower, lower voter turnout with thisuelection. Now, one of the big reasons is because of the president ial race , of course, it seems like its almost over the clear front runners, donald trump and President Biden. So people might feel like their vote really doesnt count in that aspect. But there are still a lot of other races also, historically t of older voters that show up for days like today, but there are a splot of important local issuesn the ballot that could get people to turn out as well. Weve been taking a look at voter turnout all over the bay area yesterday. There was a line of cars in alameda with people dropping off their ballots, and voters in San Francisco. Preferred going to drop their ballots at city hall. So they could ask questions if needed. But a large percentage of voters choose to vote before today, i went around our building a few weeks ago to make and i had registration cards in case they werent. I knocked on doors today to voted . I want to make sure my neighbors go and vote. And im happy to say that the neighbors i spoke to are all registered and all of them have voted and voted by mail. Here in Santa Clara County, there are a couple items on the ballot that are getting a lot of attention, and one is the congressional race to replace retiring representative anna eshoo. There are 11 candidates vying for that seat, including the former san jose mayor sam liccardouand Assembly Member evan low and Santa Clara County supervisor joe simitian. Theres also a measure to make the santa clara chief of police an appointed, rather than elected position. Santa clara is actually the only city in the wholeustate of california that still elects a police chief. So thats Something Interesting to watching today to kind of see the voter turnout. Weve got one hour until voting can start in planning to vote by mail today, it has to be postmarked by 8 p. M. Tonight. Right . So well be talking to people about why they think its important to vote today, kind of what turnout looks like this morning. Live in san jose Amanda Quintana ktvu fox two news. All right. Thank you amanda. Well, one of the most closely watched races on the california ballot is the Us Senate Race. And ktvu is andre senior in the studio. Now to tell us what the latest polls show. And tell us about the record amount of money beinguspent on this race. Well, dave, you both. The cae competing to fill the seat long held by the late senator dianne feinstein. Three of the four top candidates are currently members of congress. The fourth is a former Major League Baseball player. Now, the state campaigning to get out the vote. A newly released poll from berkeley igs shows republican and former pro baseball player steve garvey pulling ahead of democrat congressman adam schiff for the first time, followed by Democratic House member katie porter and oaklands barbara lee. Im very proud of my record of delivering mass transit, bringing back millions to find Affordable Housing for people to help deal with the epidemic of homelessness. My efforts to pass californias patient bill of rights. But people have found a voice in me where theyre standing up and saying, ive had it. Uh, we want to send seat back to washington. We want his voice. Washington needs to pay more attention to california. We are the most people, and we are not always getting washington to focus on our issues. My campaign is a multiracial, multigenerational, Progressive Coalition. Californianst well, according to adimpact, which tracks political spending, more than 65 million, has been spent on ads so far in this spcampaign. The most Expensive Senate campaign in california history. Schiff is responsible for most of that spending, with many of his ads featuring garvey, adam schiff has run a brilliant race around and excluding his democrat opposition in favor of the republican run. Its very simple as to why hes doing it, and that is because he knows that given registration trends, everything else, steve garvey doesnt have a big chance in november. So schiff has really been going after his opponents, and you see it in his media buys as well. Analysts say garvey would face a challenge in the november general election in california, where registered democrats outnumber republicans 2 to 1, which you just heard in that sound bite. There now, the top two candidates will face off in novembers general election. The ballot for the Us Senate Race is a little unusual. Now, you will actually have to vote twice for your candidate. The first votet is to finish out the current terms of the late senator dianne feinstein. From november to january, and the second vote is for the full terms in the senate for six years. That runs through january of 2031. Pam all right. Thank you. Andre a District Attorney pamela price could happen as soon as next month. Prices critics have turned in ten boxes of signatures totaling more than 123,000 names. Thats 50,000 more than needed now. The county has ten days to validate the signatures and confirm that 73,000 of them actually live in Alameda County. Recall organizers are confident they have enough. We shouldnt have to do safer community, the safety of our children, the safety of our spbusinesses, this that had to be done. Price says supporters are questioning how some of the signatures were collected. Her supporters first wrote to California Attorney general rob bonta, asking him to investigate allegations of deceptive tactics by recall organizers. Now, a letter has been sent to californias, shirleyc weber. Weve asked her to ensure that she dedicates resources immediately to ensure that each and every signature is both reviewed independently and verified. There is recall vote due to measure b on todays would change Alameda Countys recall election laws to match the laws of california. If b passes, it would raise the threshold of signatures needed for a recall. Prices opponents say no matter what happens, they are confident there will be a recall vote. Now just a reminder ktvu will have full coverage of super tuesday. Tonight well have live reports also have information on our fox local app. Were going to stream local results live. Were going to provide regular updates between 8 and 10 00 tonight. And that fox local app is a Free Download on your smart tv to get that information. All right, pam, who reported his wife and mother in law missing back in september , is now charged with their murder. San pablo Police Arrested the man after they say they found evidence he killed both of them in their home, and he allegedly reporting them as missing. Police say the husband told them that the two women drove away in the family car, and they may have headed to southern california, but police say they had this Surveillance Video of the suspect drive showing the car only hours after he told the police he didnt know where the car was. I cant even fathom the extent of grief or shock that, you know, a family. Um the family might be experiencing now, the suspects First Court Appearance is scheduled today. The police are stillt searching for the two women. Time. Now is 610. C we do have a traffic collision here reported, and we aa Traffic Camera here at theour bay bridge toll plazan its supposedly blocking some now. I. Apparently but its there and theyre sending people out somewhere in all that backup. We also doc have some slow traffic in the area. Northbound 880 is a little slow. There was a stalled vehicle now on the shoulder northbound, just after hegenberger and things have gotten better. San mateo bridge looks okay as you head out to the high rise. We started looking atusome of the other east bay commutes and there okay, we see on highway four and otherwise wereulooking pretty good in th east bay, so far. At 610. Lets go back to the desk. All rightn thank you sal, it is already a big win for donald trump ahead of the results today. We have more on the us supreme states to keep him off the ballot. And three gunmen still on the loose linked to a massc shooting over the weekend in Monterey County. We have details of the reward money now being offered to help solve the case what do i see in peter dixon . I see my husband. The father of our girls. I see a public servant. A man who served under secretary clinton in the state department. Where he took on the epidemic of violence against women in the congo. I see a fighter, a tenacious problemsolver. Who will go to congress and protect abortion rights and our democracy. Because he sees a Better Future for all of us. Im peter dixon and i approved this message. Today on this. The biggest day of the primary election campaign. Our reporter rebecca castor, is in virginia. Now to look at the impact of super tuesday and what it will have on the president ial campaign. Rebecca, good morning its like you said, itsuone of the biggest days of the president ial primary leading up to the general election in november. Today is really make it or break it, especially for the gop candidates. Donald trump and nikki haley. Donald trump far in the lead. So today is nikki haleys last chance at stopping donald trump from running away with this gop nomination. And rebecca, i know you have a lot to say about nikki haley. Is it still possible that she will stay in the race if donald trump has an overwhelming day . Or what do you think she may do . So previously, shes only committed to staying in this race until super tuesday. So of course thats today. So that big question mark is going to be tonight once the polls are closed and the results start coming in and we see how these delegate trackers get divided up. Donald trump could get very, very, very close to the nomination today if he were to rack up every delegate today, hed be just about 100 short. So well see if nikki haley is going to be able to catch up by racking up some delegates for herself today. But it comes down to the math. So if she is too far off by the enduof today, she veryumight well have to make that decision to end her campaign. Yeah, rebecca, well all be r either President Biden or donald trump to get enough delegates today to clinch the nominations for their partys. They could get very close, even if they were to win. All of the delegates, they could they would still be a little bit short. Just looking at donald trump, if he were to win all of the delegates today for the gop side, hed still be a little over 100 short. And his Campaign Says the earliest that he could secure this nomination would be march 12th. Sp all right. Reporter rebecca castor, thank you for the reports and the information from virginia. E macarthur maze and were going to go right to it here with our triplea Traffic Camera here. And you can see the macarthur maze traffic is doing alongc, moving along very well. As a matter of fact, you can see that the traffic is slowing down just right. When you get to the bay bridge can show you that right now at the toll plaza, there is a report on one of the lanes. The chp and it out of camera view, but it may be adding a little more slow traffic to the mix. This is a look at interstate 880. Now we had an earlier stalled vehicle. Its onto the side nown uh, traffic on the san mateo bridge is moderate. I do want to mention that highway four has the typical backupc this morning through pittsburg bay point, and into concord at 6. 19. Lets talk about todays weather here. Stevel did on the san mateo bridge . You know, i can go back. Oh, you know, let me let me. I see a is. Tle bit of dampness there it there a little bit. Yeahn its not exactly rain, but its probably not bone dry there steve. Gotcha. Thank you sir. All right. Well start up in cazadero with our good friend raymond, because the beat goes on for him. The rain machine has not stopped. I picked up another inch and a quarter in the past 24 hours, bringing friday to foa prettyugood rainfall in marine county northward up to Sonoma County, mount san and napa county. Saint louis, mount saint aleena point, six seven west of healdsburg, close to that near forestville. Almost a half inch rain. Franz valley 4 10. Actuam has picked up 0. 60. That is mill valley at 0. 32. So ill fix it when i can. usan anselmo, quarter of an inch. Santa rosa, downtown 14 100. uthe airports pickeduup about a quarter of an inch in petaluma and theres still been some light rain up there. Some of thisc is below the beam, which means it doesnt always show up, but its been there and its been continuing. So a light, steady rain from whats called the warm over running from that system right there, its going to come right to the coast and then go down the coast. But 40s and 50s on the although livermore is down to 43. South breeze dont want to say wind, but theres no doubt about it. South breezeufor most and in drizzle or light rain can adddy up. As you saw a quarter of an inch to half inch for some and that has not changed. And along the san mateo coast right there, thisulittle line going in could give you some drizzle rain. So the most amounts by far will be santa rosa north and then eventually towards late to, spwednesday. But again san rafal north looks pretty good. East and you may not get much of anything at all. But after we get past wednesday we look good. Break on thursday and friday. There will be another system, a weak one on saturday. Best one though for next rain. Rain would be on monday. These are not big snow producers so dont dont believe any misleading headlines like another blizzard. uand theyre bracing for it. No theyre not. Lots of clouds. Chilly, light rain, mainly north a steady rain, mostly cloudy, light rain, some sun to the south. So warmer temps there 5060s on the temps. Well get a break after wednesday, thursday, friday. A lot of cloud cover, maybe some rain. Light rain coming in late saturday. All right. Thank you steve. Were now hearing from Health Officials about an alarming report on fentanyl overdoses. Lets get back to the headlines. Thank you. Sal today is spelection day in california, along with key national, state, and local races. Several measures are also getting a lot of attention and ktvu sally rasmus in San Francisco. There are plans for last minute get out the vote events this morning. Good morning ali. Good morning. Yeahc whether you live in San Francisco or anywhere else in the bay area, if youre registered to vote, you have 8 00 tonight to turn in that mail in ballot, in ballot. Mail in ballot, in the actual mail. Now here in San Francisco, mayor london breed is expected to be in the west portal neighborhood later this morning to help campaign to past least three local measures that. Were talking about measures c, e and f, we can tell you what they are really quickly measure c would eliminate the real estate transfer tax for developers who convert commercial buildings into housing, measure e would authorize the city to install public surveys, cameras and give police more flexibility to use drones, facial Recognition Technology and chase people suspected of committing violent crimes. Measure f would require people on public assistance in San Francisco to go through Drug Screening tests and get Substance Abuse treatment, San Franciscos elections director says. So far, voter turnout from weeks of early voting and mail in ballots is about what it was four years ago during the last president ial primary electionnt now, voters go to the polling places not to vote so much, but to drop off their vote by mail ballots and the vote by and dropping off the vote by mail ballots is actually the largest number of ballots we get back on election day. So even though voter turnout as of yesterday morning in San Francisco was about 17, the elections director says he expects that number to that percentage to increase dramatically because of all the people at the last minute turning in those mail in ballots. Most voters, he says, there and elsewhere in the bay area and in california, end up turning in their ballots that way they get requests to mail in ballot, they fill it out at home, and thenuthey wait until election day to drop it off. Live in San Francisco, ali rasmus ktvu, fox two news. Thank you. Ali well, Governor Newsom made a stop at a San Francisco union hall to gather support for the yes on proposition one campaign. The governor was joined by mayor london breed, sacramento mayor darrell steinberg, and a coalition of Mental Health workers, doctors and firefighters. If approved, prop one would allow the state would be used to build Mental Health and Substance AbuseTreatment Facilities and Supportive Housing for people who bipartisan support in the state legislature. We are in a position we havent been in 50 years to address this crisis. Thats why its so important to take this opportunity in this moment to not just assert ourselves, but to advance a paradigm which i think meets this moment in a very unifying way. This was bipartisan in the senate. It opponents question the constitutional of proposition one because they say it calls for forcing some mentally ill people on the streets into treatment programs. Our time is now 6. 35. A new survey is out showing californias electorate is not as diverse as the state itself. L profile of voters, while white voters make up 39 of adults in california, they make up 52 of voters. 36 of the state are latinos, but only 25 are considered likely voters. Asians and African Americans reflect their populations. Asians make up 13 of californias american of the state population, as well as 6 of voters. Ktvu talked to Santa Clara County people about the voter outreach. We have a lot. We have 14 different languages that are required in our county. Thats a lot larger than in other counties around us. So we have a lot of access to our voter materials. Like i said, in languages that are i mean, all the languages in our voter information guide are, if you go to a vote center your ballot, all of the languages. R ballot in now, Santa Clara County is the only bay area county with more than a Million People registered to vote. Officials say the basic themes of each election are fair, inclusive, accurate and transparent equipment and stuff that we use. Its all certified from the county and from the state. Its all tested way ahead of time. We have our ballots have to be with two voters or two work hours at all times. Even if youre walkingc across the hallway, two people have to be with that ballot. Um, when the ballots are here, theyre secured under 24 hour surveillance. Um, our, our ballot drop boxes are sealed. The county held voter language workshops touteach people about mail in ballots and vote centers. The languages included punjabi. Our time is now 637 on this election. Primary election day. There are some new concerns about Artificial Intelligence and the roleuit could play in the process, and possibly even disrupt voting. Joining us nowc to talk about this is marcy andino, a senior director at the center of Internet Security. Marcy, thank you for taking time to be with usn good morning. Good morning. My pleasure to be here. Now. Its a big issue, you know, that. The concern is ai can and will spread false information. What do you seeing in terms of email, social media and other outlets that we should be watching and be aware of, you ae spdo anticipate that generativei certainly has the potential to increase misinformed nation campaigns. It can magnify or amplify the risk that already exists. Missed. Um ry. Right now, todays super tuesday. Its very quiet. We are not hearing of any spread of misinformed nation, but we know as we get closer to the general election, that will all change whats being done to actually protect voting and to make sure we can all trust the system . Um, well, as far as Artificial Intelligence, the advice that we are giving Election Officials is collaborer rate. Know when youre seeing thingsu so we can let other Election Officials know and Election Officials should be educating voters, candidates, their local media, uh, everybody in all of their stakeholders. So that they are prepared. They need to train their staff and their Seasonal Workers to make sure that they are trained to recognize, um, anything that looks suspicious, that looks like it might have been created using generative ai. And they need trusted sourcf information. And this is very important because if a voter sees something online and theyre not sure if its accurate or not, they need to know where to go to get the accurate information. And that is with state and local Election Officials. Yeah, and im glad that there with this. So how doc youucheck something to find out whether its legitimate or not . Im sorry you cut out. I could not hear. Thats okay. Marcy ill ask you again. The concern is, how do you check whether something is actually legitimate . Is there a proper way to do that . Yes, i would go to either the spstate or the local Election Officials website or give them a call. Um, that is the best way. Um, as faruas looking at something and identifying whetheruor not its, uh, its fake content, uh, its improving. All of the content is improving greatly with the use of generative ai. Um, so it really doesnt matter if its, um, created using generative ai or not. If it is inaccurate, its inaccurate. And the best way to do that or to find out for sure, is to go to the source, which is your localt Election Officials. Marcy, thank you for being here with us and making it easier for us to understand it. Guys like me, marcy andino, a senior director of the center of Internet Security. Thank you for joining us on mornings on two. My pleasure. Thanks for having me. Youre welcome. Marcy. Well, ktvu will have full coverage of super tuesday tonight. Live reports. Lets go right to our Traffic Camera and you can see the traffic is beginning to slow down have dispatched fire crews from the oakland side to this collision. So theyre going to be coming in. They were just dispatched, so theyre not there yet. So i just saw vehicles go into the tunnel. The crash is reportedly on the other side, but the traffic is beginning to slow down on the bridge when usually when that happens, they slow the metering lights down and youre going to see some big time commute delays on the bay bridge. Unless they were to happen to get this thing off. Really quickly, i think were going to be in for a tough morning on the bay bridge. Lets talk about 880 and north and south. That looks okay. In case youre thinking about the san mateo bridge, thats a decent alternate right now between bot, 642 letsubring steve sal, than. Its all about really marin county up to Sonoma County, parts of napa, but mainly the marin tousonoma. The steady rai up to an inch and a quarter. O i Mount Tamalpais is up to three quarters west of healdsburg, two thirds woodacre also in marin county, 55 100 right now near hh lake sonoma 45 a lima valley 42 and Sonoma County airports picked up a quarter of an inch. Uh not far from mill valley. Theres been also about 52 100. And near laguna, theres also a show up really well. Ill put it spright there so you can see it, butuit just kind of a steady light rain below the radar beam for some, which is why its hard to pick up, but it keeps adding up and adding up 40s u0s on the temps here. You can see some of that into marin santa rosa poinh again. Its light, but the next thing you know, hey, half inch, three quarters of an inch, maybe some along san mateo coast. Uh, also on the peninsula, theres not a lot, but theres a little bit. So look for a little bit today. Tonight and then tomorrow. That will favor areas towards the Santa Cruz Mountains on wednesday as the system slides south. So so for wednesday today and wednesday a lot of cloud cover. But look for a break and thursday and friday. Next system would beuon late saturday probably more likely on monday. And then after that the systems are trending weaker. 50 60s but still some rain falling for some here. Its not widespread, but theregs still some. Now, there were a bunch of emergency vehicles on the span, and that may be why traffic is slowing, but they cant find it. And that may be good news. If the crashcuand it is not there. There was another crash reported between the toll plaza and the bridge. So well see whats happening. One thing that i know for sure though, is things are beginning to slow way down at the bay bridge, souyou might want to think about using 880 and going down bridge. If ya position to do so.
