Theyre getting resources from pope valley and Sonoma County is optimistic that the containment lines will hold and protect the communities of oakmont and santa rosa and theyre hoping if the containment lines will hold the communities. And theres higher than normal temperatures in the area. The next 36 hours will be critical with a red flag warning going into effect just hours from now. The glass fire grew in size overnight, but containment went up too. They burned 5,000 acres. Its 5 contained. This is near highway 28. Part of the fires could be seen burning in the hills above the winery. Downhill, fire trucks kept the flames from reaching the highway. The fire was active in multiple spots. Pope valley road. Evacuation orders went into effect last night. The glass fires destroyed more than 270 structures in napa and sonoma counties including 140 homes. 2017 is the fires in this area here. 2017, 2015. This area has no fire history in the last 70 years. Its led to a build up of excessive amounts fuel. They help firefighters and its all expected to change tonight and tomorrow. The meteorologist explains temperatures in the napa valley are 15 degrees above average than they should be. We have this coupled with strong winds and fire danger. A red flag warning will go through saturday morning. Winds are going to pick up heading southeast. The fire will be pushed in a direction it hasnt been pushed before and fuels it hasnt encountered yet. Now, all of the sudden, we are having to reengage and refocus efforts. Theyre making the containment lines and focus on strengthening them while they can before the red flag warning goes into eeffect until 6 00 tonight and it will last until 6 00 a. M. Saturday morning. A lot of chatter about the wind coming our way in the next 48 hours and kylie is keeping an eye on this red flag warning. When it hits is it above 1,000 feet. It will be gusty below that deck. We talked about it being the north bay hills and mountains. Its the east bay hills and the Santa Cruz Mountains as well. It kicks off and it will be extended through 6 00 a. M. Saturday. When you take a look at some the temperatures where we were yesterday, santa rosa today looking at 194, 90 in San Francisco and 96 in san jose. You can barely see San Francisco there, you look at the temperatures there and had in San Francisco and oakland, 86 in san jose. The air quality is not great. We have slipped out of the green into the yellow. Yellow is moderate and ego into orange which is, if youre accepts active groups and people who have respiratory issues. You go to red and thats what is happening in napa right now. You can see it in oakland and livermore and san jose, also in the unhealthy category. Our High Pressure system has moved offshore. Flames have destroyed 250 buildings in napa and sonoma counties, including 143 homes and 144 structures have been damaged. They claim the audit was not following recommendations on how to use funds, vegetation removal in the use of resource. They want the board of supervisors to have a consolidation proposal that would coordinate fire preparedness. Its a matter of public safety. Theyve been mismanaging this Fire Protection district and the county board of supervisors has the ability to remove their authority and put it in the hands of the Santa Clara County fire department. The county board of supervisors is set to discuss the recent audit on tuesday of next week. Certainly firefighters across the bay area are on high alert.
