Just down the hill from where cal fire is now investigating. Very active fire. Spotting out quite a ways ahead of itself. Reporter robert fox worthy described the chaotic early moments of the fire. He could not confirm any details about a possible cause and origin of the blaze. I know our investigators out there currently trying to track down and eliminate all of the things that didnt start it and figure out what it was that did. Reporter investigations into the cause of a wildfire can sometimes take months or even a year. Investigators need to rule out all other possibilities. And sometimes they never come up with how a viral started. Determining the cause of a wildfire can have monumental ramifications. Pg e has accepted responsibility for some of californias most devastating fires caused by its equipment. The company declared bankruptcy ask settled with the wildfire victims this year for 13. 5 billion. The utility was quick to distance itself from the glass fire, saying in a statement we have no information indicating the glass fire ignition is attributable to our facilities. Now, these fires are not insignificant or small fires. The fact is, these things, if they get a lot of wind on them, could be a real, real problem. But this is a fight to the finish, with no idea where the finish line actually is. The fight against the glass fires eastern flank took place uncomfortably close to angwin, population 3400, already under mandatory evacuation. This is largely an intense and relentless aerial battle, putting aircraft, including Air National Guard helicopters, against a fire that could still make its way to angwin should conditions make it possible. Thats because this part of the glass fire is just too big and too close to ignore. Anquan is higher and a little further up the road from deer park, which was destroyed by fire coming upslope towards angwin from below. We met john be a both in st. Today cal fire was able to add more helicopters, dropping water on to the fire. There are now 16 helicopters in operation up from 7 yesterday. Cal fire is reporting some success in the eastern part of the glass fire, burning near the community of angwin, with cross able to successfully build fire lines and keep flames at bay. In ken wood, firefighters have reportedly sealed off part of the fire from that community, while on the north part of the fire, rough terrain has proved challenging. Every time we try to construct the power line, we are having to back off to further ridge lines to get a control line in place. Reporter as the flames rage on, so kuzmic the massive effort underway to slow the glass fires spread as another wind event threatens to undue all of the work already done to stamp out the monstrous blaze. To protect the properties of those who have been forced to plea, the Sonoma County sheriff said 50 additional sheriffs deputies have been deployed to prom r patrol these areas 24 hours day. Deputies have mr. Nashed five people who were illegally in evacuation areas. Those people had no lawful reason to be there, and we believe they were looking for crimes of opportunity. Luckily we did not have any burglaries or looting, and we were able to friend them before anything happened. Pg e said there are 6500 customers in Sonoma County, and 8500 customers in napa county that are presently without power. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. We have been checking on some of the napa valley wineries that burned over the past few days. This is from hourglass winery in st. Helena at about 8 00 this morning. Both the winetry and the guest house on the property were destroyed. The over told the chronicle an underground cave that housed barrels of aging wine likely survived. Also we visited chateau boswell winery in st. Helena and found some of the structures burned. Some of wean grapes had burned, but other grapes appeared to be intact, but likely affected by all of the smoke. It has been in the napa valley for more than 40 years. On the other side of the fire in Sonoma County, some evacuated families are being allowed back home for the first time. Cristina rendon tells us that for many its a sigh of relief, but for others, theyre still waiting to learn whether anything is left. All of of the reports i get are all contradicting to each other, saying this area is under an evacuation warning, and i go back and its still evacuated and im not allowed to go in. Reporter police are urging residents to check in the citys website for updated evacuation zones. I know its stressful. We know that people want to go home, and our goal is to get people home as soon as possible, but when it is safe.
