Sheriffs office said the man was on a bicycle yesterday afternoon when deputies attempted to stop him from a vehicle for vehicle code violation. The man took off when deputies caught up with him, they say he punched one of the deputies. They say he had a gun on him. Two deputies opened fire and killed the man. Demonstrators vandalize the Sheriffs Office and confronted depues killing. The state legislature approved a bill focused on police oversight. The bipartisan measure calls for the state attorney general and another state prosecutor to investigate deadly shootings by Law Enforcement. Midnight was the deadline for lawmakers to pass bills this session and they did not vote on tougher Police Restrictions such as denying troubled officers the ability to keep their badge and holding officers to some financial responsibility if they are sued. Starting today, San Francisco will allow hair salons, barber shops, nail salons, and Massage Therapy studios to reopen, but for Outdoor Service only. Customers and workers have to wear facial coverings, and businesses that first get a city permit can set up tents outdoors to protect customers and employees from the sun and elements. Santa clara county has a similar reopening plan under californias new system. The number of coronavirus cases has passed the 17,000 mark with 175 new cases reported yesterday in Santa Clara County. The wildfires in Northern California have claimed the life of a firefighter. The firefighter was killed battling august complex fires in the mendocino forest southwest of chico. A second firefighter was injured and receiving medical attention. The u. S. Forest service is in charge of the fires and says more details will be released in the next few days. The august fires have grown to 300 69 square miles and they are only 20 contained. Happening today, the santa clara board of supervisors is prepared to discuss several solutions to increased threats of wildfires including creating a wildland fire program. The county Fire Department came up with a program which could focus on technology, response, and risk reduction. The board of supervisor president has been working with the department to come up with new solutions since 2018 and supports the new plan. California state Assembly Members approved the measure adding one High School Course on oppressed and exploited minorities through u. S. History. It has infected at least 293 employees and eight people have died. In a statement, foster farms says it is committed to protecting and ensuring the health and betterment of the communities they serve. The federal bureau of prisons will start allowing inmates to have visitors once again. They suspended those at the 122 federal prisons in march because of the pandemic. Visitors can return in october, but under strict new safety rules. Inmates and visitors will have to wear facial masks and all visitors have to undergo temperature checks and answer a questionnaire on whether they have ever been infected or have shown symptoms of the coronavirus. They still have to wait a little more than a week. San francisco is handing out personal protective equipment to businesses across the city. They started with deliveries to businesses in latino businesses because the capita rate is higher there than in other parts of the city. The hope is the equipment delivery will help businesses to reopen as soon as they are allowed to. We received over 1 million pieces of ppe, and we have today masks, shields, hand sanitizer, and we are passing them out directly to Small Businesses. At least a 30day supply to support Small Business community. We need to have or we should have been given the parameters ahead of time so we are ready to go once they left the shelter in place. Reporter the salons can operate outdoors. Some are not happy about this because they said there are still a number of services they cant offer outside. New statistics show the number coronavirus cases in california have plummeted in the past month. The cdc reports on july 31, the average single the number of cases for the past week was 8300. That number felt to 5200 at the end of august. The number of deaths dropped slightly. The 7day rolling average on july 31 was 117. It is now 110. Heres an update on the bay area wildfires. First, the czu lightning fires in Santa Cruz Mountains which happened more than 133 square miles and is 41 contained, pge is repairing or replacing 900 power poles and transformers destroyed by the fires. Santa cruz county is sending building inspectors out to check homes. 900 homes are among the 1400 buildings that were destroyed in the fires. Three main runs in the Santa Cruz Mountains will get millions of dollars for repairs. Parts of highways 1, 9, and 236 need major repair work. Crews after first take out debris and fallen trees from the roads. Caltrans will check the highway damage, and when that is can b cal fire has lifted some evacuation orders for the scu lightning complex fire. The orders have been listed in santa clara, san joaquin, and alameda. That has been more than 783 acres. Cal fire says it is 65 contained. They hope to have full containment by thursday. Three firefighters and two civilians have been hurt in that fire in more than 100 buildings have been destroyed since the fire started two weeks ago. About 5000 buildings are still in danger. A woodward fire near Point Reyes National seashore in marin county is now 17 contained. It has burned more than five square miles and the Sheriffs Department lifted some of the evacuation warning for people in bolinas. Dampen foggy weather has helped the firefighters get control of the flames, but that is also limiting the use of firefighting planes and helicopters in the area. Cal fire crews are making progress against the l and u complex fire in sonoma, lake, napa, yolo counties. It is 66 percent contained. It has destroyed more than 1200 buildings. We still dont know how many of those buildings are homes. President trump will head to kenosha, wisconsin, following the shooting death of shooting of jacob blake by police. The president said he will visit with local Law Enforcement and survey the damage left behind from the protests. The police chief is pleading for an end to the violence following clashes between police and protesters. Portland desperately needs calm. We are living in a divided era and it is time to start focusing on what we have in common and not what divides us. Lives are at stake. 29 people were arrested sunday night after Police Declared an Unlawful Assembly when writers threw rocks at officers. Oakland says 24 people were arrested during the three days of demonstrations last week. Officials say sothe protesters destroyed property and were hostile toward vandali and cost more than 100,000 in damage to the Federal Building and courthouse. City leaders stand against social injustice, but they stress protests must remain peaceful. One of College Footballs best coaches joined his team in a march for social justice. Nick sabin of the university of alabama led his players in this demonstration on the campus, and they called it a march for change. The top running back, harris, who started antioch high school, walked next to the head coach and wore a shirt that read defend black lives and racial solidarity against this corrupt system. San francisco voters should start getting their ballots in the mail beginning october 5. State lawmakers want juries to better reflect the diversity of california. State legislature approved a measure that expands jury pools by picking candidates from among everyone who files income tax returns. Jury summons are sent to people who registered to vote or applied for a drivers license. The new proposal is designed to have more people of color and those from low incomes. Local transit groups will hold a digital town hall meeting about the idea of charging a fee to drive into downtown San Francisco. They say congestion pricing would dramatically cut down on rushhour traffic and also increase road safety and improve air quality. The shelter in place orders have drastically reduced downtown traffic in recent months, but transit experts predict the highway gridlock will be back soon to record high levels it reached last year.
