The top medical officer for the state correctional system has been replaced. This move comes as cases of covid19 surged among inmates and staff in california prisons including san quentin. Allie rasmus joins us to talk about what is being done to stop the bricks in the prison systems. Reporter good morning. There is no doubt that san quentin is one of the coronavirus hotspots in the bait area and within the california state recent system. There are more people and inmates sick with covid19 at san quentin than any other prison in the state of california. Here are the latest numbers. 1355 inmates at san quentin have tested positive for covid 19. More than 900 of them just in the past two weeks. 165 Staff Members have tested positive for the virus and six inmates have died from it so far. Governor newsom calls the outbreak at that prison a crisis in a top priority and he says the goal is to safely relieve nonviolent offenders. We dont want to send people out to homeless shelters. We want to make sure we responsibly move people out but with a deep sense of urgency. The outbreak at san quentin begin after an infected inmate in chino were transferred there in late may. Yesterday it was announced the top medical officer for the gulf when a Correction System was removed and replaced. The state has set up a Field Hospital at san quentin to help handle the search of patient dozens of inmates have sent to outside facilities for treatment for the virus. There will be Additional Resources to san quentin. 150 correction officers have been move there and 40 nursing staff from other prisons in the state have been sent to san quentin to help address this crisis. Time is 5 05. After one week the Health Officials have band Indoor Dining at restaurants. They are back on californias coronavirus watch list and that tougher restrictions are back. Public Health Officials say the ban on Indoor Dining will continue for three more weeks. Restaurants are allowed to state open if they limit themselves to outdoor eating and takeout food. We brought back another five Staff Members and hired two new food vendors and host. For the next three weeks we will not need them. The county Health Official says if the infection rate does not go down the ban could continue into august. San francisco plan to allow Indoor Dining starting on monday however the Golden Gate Restaurant Association says its heard unofficially that will not happen. The number of new Coronavirus Infections continues to grow in San Francisco. Health experts say Indoor Dining is more likely to spread the virus the eating outside so infection rates would have to go down before Indoor Dining could be allowed. Restaurants can offer outdoor dining, takeout and delivery services. Restaurant owners say an official announcement is likely to happen later today. Napa county Health Officials are warning they may soon shut down some of the businesses that just reopened. Napa says the number of newly confirmed cases has jumped. If that continues it could take action by thursday. Authorities say they could shutdown bars, Indoor Dining at restaurants, museums, movie theaters and card rooms. Everyone can help by practicing social distancing and wearing face masks. A vigil will be held today in San Francisco for sixyear old young who was killed by a straight bullet while he was watching fireworks. Ktvu has been told by a Law Enforcement source the mother of a 16yearold who may be a suspect in the shooting is being interviewed and reportedly the teenager wants to surrender to police. The sixyearold was killed saturday night when shots were fired as fireworks went off in the bayview district. Its an open homicide investigation. The District Attorney without he would hold the suspect in the killing of the sixyearold accountable. We must put down the guns. A man is in a walnut creek hospital after being shot while he sat in his car. This morning firefighters continue to battle that wildfire thats burning east of gilroy. The crews fire started sunday afternoon north of highway 152. It has now burned 5400 acres and its 20 contained. Two homes have burned. Dozens of others are threaten hundreds of firefighters from across the state are working to try to get that fire under control. We had an incredibly busy weekend through the bay area with firework activity, fire hippity and to be able to call crews from outside of Santa Clara County and through the state is critical. The crews fire has force evacuation of 70 people. One firefighter suffered a minor injury. No word yet on what may have caused the fire. This morning crews in Solano County are watching out for hotspots from a 60 acre fire that came close to homes in fairfield. The Mountain Meadows fire started after 4 30 yesterday afternoon near link road. Strong winds fueled the flames and the fire quickly grew forcing the evacuation of dozens of homes and businesses. It was terrifying. Not knowing what to do. I was scrambling around. There were 2230 foot flames. Fire crews battled the flames from both the ground and air for several hours. The fire was declared under control shortly after 8 00 last night. No homes were damaged and there are no reports of any injuries. The cause of that fire also still under investigation. Firefighters in Contra Costa County what to know how a fire in the city of rodeo started. The flames were real close to a fuel storage tank. One person is in custody this morning accused of killing a doctor from danville in a remote area of the sierra. Ari gershman was off road with his 15yearold son last friday in an area of the Tahoe National forest. Investigators say gershman was shot and killed but his son was able to escape. The teenage son survived for 30 hours in the wilderness before help arrived. Two other unnamed people were shot by the same gunmen earlier in the day. The gunman was taken into custody on saturday. A gofundme account is help to raise money for the family of the victim them. Gershmans widow is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. He leaves behind another son and daughter. Reporter at last update the crews fire is 5400 acres and 20 contained. As of monday officials said 70 been evacuated from their homes. 30 structures are threaten. One has been destroyed and one damaged according to cal fires latest information. Evacuations are in effect from highway 152 north of Gilroy Hot Springs and southeast to print dale avenue. The red cross set up and evacuation center. Hundreds of firefighters are on the ground trying to get a handle on these flames as helicopters fly overhead dropping water and retarding. When we get that information, we will share with you. Three bay area counties on the states current watch list for coronavirus cases. Contra costa, marin county and Solano Countys are above the added to that list later today. The governor says most counties are cooperating with the state but there are places where people are ignoring the guidelines. To the extent that local officials are unwilling or unable to enforce then we will step up our enforcement at the state level. The biggest concerns are the number of people who need to be hospitalized and of those the number who require treatment in intensive care units. The governor says the number of new cases is mostly coming from younger people who frequently have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all but they can still spread the infection to other people who are more at risk. The state assembly will be delayed and coming back from their summer recess because of the coronavirus. Five lawmakers and Staff Members have tested positive for the coronavirus including and assemblywoman. Assembly members were supposed to come back next week but now they will state in recess until further notice. The States Senate is expected back on monday. California broke the record for the most new covid19 cases in one day. According to the chronicle, county Health Departments reported 8200 infections yesterday.
