For much of the afternoon as fire crews battled a fire. Bridge traffic was rerouted on to 780. The bridge has now reopened. The cause of either fire has not been determined. Fire reduce crews in the south bay continue to battle one wildfire while cleaning up after another. The most active is the cruz fire, burning east of gilroy. Currently its only 0 contained. Effort started yesterday, not far from another fire, the park fire, which forced dozens of evacuations in morgan hill. That fire is now 80 contained. Maureen nailer has more on the progress being made. Reporter the firefighting on the cruz fire continued for a second day near gilroy. It is close to ranches north of highway 152, and east of highway 101. A an orange glow lit up the area november night as crews benefited from higher calmer winds. Two structures have already gurned with 30 for threatening according to fire officials. And for the second day in a row, waterdropping planes and helicopters helped crews on the ground. In the fire started sunday afternoon. Firefighters responded to a structure fire on cruz road. The road cross set up an Evacuation Center at the gilroy senior center. Two people phoned for assistance, but no one showed up in person. Organizers say new precautions are in place because of the pandemic. Were prepared to screen clients who show up, and to provide them a safe space with hand washing and social distancing and thats if they need it. Reporter status briefings are more spread out, and firefighters are given package meals instead of the traditional food Service Lines with the pandemic. Firefighters from as far south as san diego have responded to help. Some residents have posted signs of thanks. We had an incredibly business busty weekend through the bay area with fireworks activity, fire activity, and so to be able to call crews from outside of Santa Clara County and throughout the state is critical. Our enforcement has been prioritized on parts of the state, where we have known violators, where we have high risk work places to address the bad actors. With 5790 people now in the hospital, that rate has increased 50 in the last two weeks. The greatest concern . Icu admissions have increased by 39 over the last two weeks. But in recent days, covid19 deaths have declined to 18 on saturday, and six yesterday. Hopeful and far better than the 56 deaths a day over the last two weeks, but not a reliable trend. The rising tide of infections is attributed to decidedly younger californians. Not surprisingly, the young invincables as we refer to them. Young folks that just feel they are invincable, that just dont feel its going to impact them, and if it does, its not a big burden. Reporter thats unless, of course, they spread it to someone who is burdened, or killed. The California Legislature has indefinitely delayed the state assemblies return to work from a scheduled summer recess after Anthony Rendons office found that five people who work in the assembly are have tested positive for the coronavirus. The assembly will stay in recess until further notice in order to protect lawmakers, staff, and the public. The legislature shutdown for nearly two months earlier this year during the pandemic. A surge in covid19 cases has put marin county on the states watch list. Rob ross tells us last week county Health Officials gave restaurants the go ahead to open Indoor Dining, but today they reversed course. Reporter for many restaurants in marin county, it feels like bad case of whiplash. One week ago, they were allowed to reopen for Indoor Dining under certain restrictions, but as of monday, just seven days later, under near orders by the Marin County Health department, Indoor Dining is prohibited at least for the next three weeks. Armed agents with the California Department of alcohol Beverage Control surprised restaurants, telling owners they had to stop providing Outdoor Dining because santa clara had not received formletle state permission to allow it. County Officials Say the states guidelines arent clear and didnt specifically restrict Outdoor Dining. A number of counties opened up Outdoor Dining because the state order is silent on the issue, and, you know, the way that people have interpreted state orders is that something is prohibited when it is expressly prohibited, but when the state silent, that is left to the local jurisdiction to decide how to proceed. Police say gunfire erupted at 10 45 saturday night with multiple shots fires in the area of ingalls and whitfield court. Sixyearold jace young had already been struck by gunfire by the time the police arrived. He died from his injuries. An adult male victim was also found, but he is expected to recover from his winds. Police say they dont believe that either of those who were injured were the targets of this shooting. Now the supervisor for the area and the chief of police are calling on anyone who knows about who pulled the trigger in this case to come forward. Its an open homicide investigation, so theres not a lot i can add right now by way often commenting on progress of the investigation, except to say were going to do everything we can to bring this case to a resolution for this child and for his family, and for the people of our city.
