All around the bay area again today, about 300 protesters gathered in fremont tonight, there was a similar scene in Mountain View were Police Stopped traffic to let people march. In the east bay San Leandro High School students organized a peaceful protest in hayward. Another diverse crowd demanding change. We have more on the protest and the message being sent in the suburbs. The police chief and Community Leaders tell me that they are proud of the way this protest turned out, they described it as successful, impactful and organized. This march and protest organized by College Students had a turnout that would make a large city proud, by police estimate 1000 people attended i think this is very historic and important. Reporter they say its a good place to show solidarity with others to manage justice for george floyd. We have been fighting for a long time, this fight cannot go silent. Reporter they have seen the racial makeup change, census data shows it was predominantly white 20 years ago, not so in 2020. Communicate with people around you, stand up for what you believe in and dont back down. Reporter organizers said there was apprehension by some in the community when they heard about the protest being held here. A lot of people thought we were going to come to terrorize the city and they want to believe the movement is dangerous but its not we are fighting the danger. Reporter the goal is to bring about change through peaceful demonstrations, a moment of silence as protesters took to their knees, looking forward they say other actions are needed to sustain their movement. Its empowering to each other. Organizers are pleasantly surprised by the large turnout and say it shows the power of the movement for change. The demonstration began around 4 30 this afternoon, protesters walked from Washington High School to Police Headquarters about two miles away. Some demonstrators wore masks and held signs with messages like how many are not filmed and defund the police. Support, solidarity, things are wrong. You have to make a stand. The protesters called for the Fremont School district and its relationship with the police and use that money instead to pay for Affordable Housing and other community services. Another protest is scheduled for saturday. The San Francisco mayor announced a plan to shift funding from the Police Department to the cities black community. The mayor and supervisor says they will lead a collaborative process on how that would work in a statement the mayor said the average yearly income for a black family and the city is 31,000. Compared to 110,000 for a white family. Supervisor walton said repurpose and funding would help level the Playing Field for the black committee. The governors warning that california could see another wave of coronavirus cases as the state reopens and thousands of people come together in close contact during our daily protest.
