Well, police are investigating the deadly shooting of a man who was in a parking lot. Investigators say that shooting happened shortly after 9 00 last night. In the parking lot of the redwood credit union, a man had been shot in the chest. Police have identified the victim but are not releasing information until relatives are notified. They are also trying to obtain Surveillance Video right now from nearby businesses, as a first step toward identifying the suspect. The word police in the Alameda CountyDistrict Attorneys Office are investigating a officer involved shooting that sent one to the hop hospital. It happened near Sleepy Hollow park. Police responded to a man chasing people on a motorcycle and banging on doors. Police say the man approached them with a weapon, and they shot him. There is no report on his medical condition. Thurman said the state needs to come up with 500 million to supplement distance learning. Here is a drone video coming in from our sister station. Several locks have destroyed buildings, and storefronts with broken glass across the street. The mayor of minneapolis has asked the governor to bring in the National Guard to help with some of the conflict and unrest. We are told as many as 60 state troopers have come in. What started as a peaceful protest over the death of george floyd, who died in police custody, into the overnight hours, the demonstration became violent. There were reports of looting. One person was shot and killed during the looting that happened at a pawn shop read they do have someone in custody for that shooting. The police do not know yet what led up to it. Tonight was a different night of protesting than it was the night before. There was definitely a lot of stuff getting thrown around. It was definitely worse down there. East of lake street, but i actually wanted, like, what are people doing and why are they doing this . Protesters had been calling for the four Police Officers involved in floyds death to face criminal charges, and the mayor of minneapolis says he agrees. Those officers should be held criminally responsible. Video shows a police officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeling on the neck of george floyd for several minutes, as he repeatedly gasps for air until becoming sponsored and died before officers. Well more than 300 inmates are going to be tested for covid19, and thats after two more inmates in Santa Clara County tested positive for coronavirus. The two inmates are the same camp at elmwood correctional facility. They tested positive for the virus on tuesday and on wednesday. This comes after a confirmed infection from the weekend, hundreds of other inmates in the same area will be tested to try and prevent the spread. There will also be isolation and Contact Tracing among those who are vulnerable. Prisoners in california say they are unsafe and unprotected against the pandemic. More than 1200 confirmed cases are among california inmates, and none of them have died. Ktvu has received letters describing inhumane conditions and prisons that are grossly overcrowded. The state says it is doing more separating, deep cleaning, and providing masks and sanitizers. But so far, there have been at least two outbreaks affecting both prisoners and staff. The fact of the matter is, there are still hundreds of people using the same toilet. Using the same sink. Having food prepared communally , by people who may be infected. Amazon says it will offer permanent jobs to 70 of the u. S. Workers that it has hired to handle the increase in business from the pandemic. But for the most part, we are talking about job losses right now. This morning for the opening bell rang, the department of labor announced more unemployment files. That number came in from the Labor Department at 5 30 this morning. As we take a live look at the new york stock exchange, a little bit better than analysts were expecting. So the numbers are up right now across the board. We are also getting some good earnings reports from some of the retailers. We will talk about that in a second, but dow jones up about a quarter of a percent. S p 500, same, percentagewise for the nasdaq this morning. Two companies doing well, eller tree and dollar general. Those stores reported better than expected sales and profit for the quarter. He benefited from a surge in demand, especially from discount groceries and household essentials, cleaning products during the pandemic. The stores were allowed to stay open. They saw a rush of panic buying in early march and april. Dollar general says sales rose 27 . Its biggest sales jump in years. Chevron does plan to lay off up to 50 of its entire workforce. Most job cuts will happen before the end of the year. The San Francisco, or, san ramon based company has 45,000 workers, about half of them are based in the u. S. Chevron says the move is so it can remain competitive in industry that has been severely impacted by mobile shutdowns, which drastically reduced the demand for oil and gas. Crude oil prices are down nearly 50 from late february. Well we could see a spike in used car sales this summer after rental car company, hertz winter bankruptcy. It will not get rid of its entire fleet, but many of its rental cars will be sent to those used car lots. Also leased cars that many drivers have put off returning in the last few months will also be on the lots. Those leases will expire this summer and go back on the market, so there will be a tremendous amount of choice in all price ranges for consumers looking to buy a used vehicle this summer. Now according to data from the automotive index, used cars prices dropped 11 last month. The other thing helping out, people who do need to buy a car, Interest Rates are at record lows. By the way, analysts say if you owe more than 7000 on your current car payment, you might want to look at refinancing, you could save some money there. That is a look at your dollars and sense. Several people at the Pleasanton Office were told to come back another day, because they did not schedule an apartment. As traffic starts to pick up the people to have to start paying toll lanes once again. Starting on monday, drivers are going to be charged for using the express lanes. Just before 10 00 last night heard police now say a man walked up to the Group Standing at an apartment complex and shot each of them once. They were taken to the hospital with nonlifethreatening injuries. Police are looking for the suspect and a motive. Police are also expecting investigating a shooting that happened in a parking lot. This happened shortly after 9 00 last night. This was in the parking lot of the redwood credit union. The man had been shot in the chest. Police have identified the victim, but are not releasing that information until relatives are notified. They are also trying to obtain Surveillance Video from nearby businesses. They say that will be the first step in identifying a suspect. Hayward police are investigating an officer involved shooting that sent one to the hospital. It happened at eight neighborhood near Sleepy Hollow not far from mount eagle park yesterday afternoon. Officers are spotting to reports of a man on a motorcycle, chasing someone and banging on doors, police say the man approached them with a weapon, and they shot at him. The man has not been identified and there is no report on his medical condition. This morning in minneapolis, the mayor is pleading for calm in the city streets there, as protests, all in response to the death of george floyd, turned violent. A man was shot and killed right near last nights demonstrations, Authorities Say they arrested someone for the shooting, but they dont know yet if it involved a protest. Demonstrations began peaceably, but several businesses were set on fire, and a target store was looted. Protesters are demanding police officer, Derek Chauvin be charged with pinning floyd to the ground and suffocating him. Three other officers have since been fired. A call for justice has brought demonstrations to other cities. Several hundreds marched throughout Downtown Los Angeles last night and blocked 101 freeway there, and smashing windows of several police cars. They issued a citywide technical alert. Many officers on duty remained on duty throughout the night. Well governor gavin newsom says United States and california have reached a milestone in this pandemic. While we have fared a lot better than other states, as it relates to mortality, the number of deaths in the state, of california, as it relates to this pandemic, by no means been immune. The coronavirus has killed more than 100,000 americans, officially, the most of any country in the world. In california now has more than 100,000 confirmed cases, the fourth most in the u. S. The state is also approaching here in the bay area more than 13,000 people have tested positive now for the coronavirus. So far, at least 434 people here in the bay area have died. Most counties are reporting a rise in the number of cases, but raising numbers dont necessarily mean there is a spike, because of relaxed restrictions. The increase could be simply due to more testing being done. Santa clara countys Health Officers says progress is being made. It takes at least two weeks, sometimes three to really understand what the impact is. We are looking at how many new cases we have identified, and how many new people required hospitalization. When we see we have things fairly stable, we can ease again and go to the next phase. Santa clara remains in the early part of phase two of the reopening process, manufacturing and warehouses are open along with Retail Stores, but only for curbside pickup. Californias employment Development Department is looking to boost its staff to handle the flood of unemployment claims that have been brought on by the pandemic. The permit is looking to hire 1800 people, and to add to the 3000 already on the job. Federal funds will pay for additional staff. They need help processing claims and phone calls. Sonoma county has been given the goahead to reopen, but county officials are not letting churches open up doors. But the Catholic Bishop there says he plans to hold mass. According to the bishop there, he is advising parishes to follow Sonoma CountyHealth Official guidelines, but he wont forbid them from reopening churches, and he wont stand in the way of communities that believe they can eliminate the risk. The bishop says he knows of a few churches that will open up doors for pentecost, sunday, but he says he does not want to attract people from outside the parishes to the services, so therefore he wont identify the churches. Things will likely look quite different for the schools that reopen in the fall. Yesterday, state superintendent of public instruction, tony thurman,will be mandatory mask wearing and temperature checks for students and staff. Also, expect smaller class sizes and hybrid classrooms where some students come in and others participate online. A more detailed guideline on those changes is expected, next week. We are continuing to monitor of elements coming out of minneapolis, minnesota, that is where we have seen some big protests and people there waking up this morning to smoke and some buildings are heavily damaged. What began as a peaceful protest really just changed, and this was of course all about the death of an unarmed africanamerican man in police custody. They all ended with fires and looting. Well people in minneapolis, city citizens and leaders are waking up to assess the damage from overnight. Fires and widespread looting, in certain part of the city. Take a look at the video this morning. Many illnesses are still smoldering from flames still visible. There are several blocks and shops with busted windows, shattered glass, ash and debris littering the streets. This happened in the Southern Area of minneapolis. That is were protesters had gathered earlier in the day to demonstrate against the death of 46yearold george floyd. Initially the protests were peaceful, but after several hours they devolved into looting and violence. You can see there is a bullet hole right here, and that is about the time i bailed out the back door. People there, are truly there to honor the memory in the family, this isnt how you do it. And, it it its so disrespectful and its heart breaking. It really is. Its people are utilizing this as a purpose to just be, make bad decisions today as many as 60 state troopers are helping Minneapolis Police after the mayor of the city after the governor for help in bringing in the National Guard. The mayor says he believes the four officers involved should face criminal charges, and that is what protesters have been calling for after cell phone video shows an officer leaving, leaning on floyds neck, who repeatedly gasping for air, asking to breathe. Minnesotas state attorney general, as well as the fbi are all investigating the circumstances surrounding floyds death. Reporting live, allie rasmus, ktvu fox 2 news. They were more than good friends, jackson actually called floyd his twin. Since floyd was known for having a car, kind heart and helping those around him. Reporter more than 300 inmates will be tested for covid19, and that is after two more inmates in Santa Clara County tested positive for coronavirus. The two inmates are at the same camp at elmwood correctional center, facility, i should say, in milpitas. This comes after a confirmed infection from the weekend, hundreds of other inmates living in that same area will be tested to prevent the spread. There will also be isolation and Contact Tracing among those who are vulnerable. Prisoners and california say they feel unsafe and unprotected against the pandemic. There are more than 1200 confirmed cases among californias inmates. Nine inmates have died. Ktvu has received letters describing inhumane conditions and prisons that are grossly overcrowded. The state says it is doing more cleaning, separating inmates, and providing masks and sanitizer. So far, there have been at least two outbreaks affecting both prisoners and staff. The fact of the matter is there is still hundreds of people using the same toilet. Using the same sink. Having food prepared, communally, by people who may be infected.
