Extended a moratorium on rental evictions because the pandemic. Several counties in the bay area are going to be debating this issue. Allie rasmus joins us this morning with the ongoing effort to protect the tenants they may have lost their jobs. They are concerned about the possibility of losing their homes. There are at least three bay area counties were the supervisors are considering extending a temporary ban on evictions. And supervisors who support this idea say that without it more people in the community would end up becoming homeless. At 9 am that is when marin county board of supervisors will start discussing whether not to extend the moratorium on evictions at least another month until june 30. In march the board of supervisors put a two month hold because of the covid19 pandemic. Citing severe financial distress and unemployment amongst residence. Supervisors in Santa Clara County will discuss the same idea later this afternoon extending the temporary ban on evictions. The board of supervisors in that county will discuss the idea at the meeting today. And one of the nonprofit groups that offers our operations here says the need for help has skyrocketed. This executive director of sacred heart says 20,000 people come to them in the past seven weeks asking for financial help. The volume that we have seen of people that are coming in absolute desperation is unlike anything else that weve actually seen. It is truly devastating to see families that are doing everything that the communities are asking them to do, staying home and taking care of their kids and families and trying to do what they can but sitting there worried. About 20 minutes from now San Mateo County faith leaders and supervisors will be coming together to call on the board in that county to extend the moratorium on all business and residential evictions. Theres also a statewide moratorium on evictions that Governor Newsom enacted in march. It is still in effect but it does expire next week. The word yet from the Governors Office as to whether or not it will be extended. Reporting live, ktvu fox news. The county superior court system will be reopening today. The rules are for courthouses in martinez, richmond pittsburgh and walnut creek. The upper income limit is 34,000 for households with one or two people with increasing limits for households with more individuals.
