Theres a lady across the way and she left yesterday but theres still, i guess her husband is still in the cabin. They didnt take him, but we really dont have any contact with anybody. We dont know where were going or whats happening. I cant imagine what the workers are going through and theyre not going to get to get off. They are going to be quarantined here on the ship and out in the middle of the ocean. They have to leave the port. Reporter as you heard, the last passenger mentioned theres about a thousand crew members not getting off the ship and will have to remain in quarantine on the cruise line or once all 2,000 or so passengers get off the ship. Once the passengers leave, what happens next . California passengers on board the ship will be transported to air force base or the base near san diego. Those from out of state will go to Lackland Air Force in texas or georgia for a 14 day quarantine period. Initially we had been told that everyone whos going to the quarantine would be tested for covid19 but i got a new form sent to one of the passengers we interviewed and in that form it does say people in quarantine and dont show signs of any illness will have the option of being tested for covid19 so sounds like its not necessarily a with certainty that everyones going to the bases coming off the ship will be tested for corona virus. Some might say here she is tasked with keeping the city safe and theyre not on their best behavior, why is that a problem . Two reasons. One is we want to develop Good Community relations between the police and citizens here in oakland. Its really important that officers come with their best face as theyre faced with the department in that interaction. No matter the person theyre stopping is giving to them . The second reason were concerned about discourtesy is its an indicator the officer is starting to cross the line of other areas in policing. Thats happened in oakland from the imposition of the Police Commission. Why is it important to have civilians investigating a Police Agency . Civilians take a different perspective. Nay are more likely to be indent and objective and dont feel theres such a close teammate of the Police Officer that they have an or a desire to exonerate them. I think for other cops, its very hard for them to be neutral when evaluating the behavior of one colleague. Civilians create that level of independence and achieving trainings pansy and accountability in the Police Department. Some describe the commission and others as anticop. Thats an unfair critique. It is clearly the case that here in oakland we have a history of some problems with the Police Department. It is, i think, thoughtful and logical to say that we need to be very careful about overseeing our Police Department here in oakland and having civilians as part of the mix. One Chinese Restaurant chain is taking an unusual move amid growing corona virus fears. Restaurant workers are taking customers temperatures before theyre allowed in. Something new greeting diners at the szechuwan impression restaurant. Everyone that comes in the door getting their temperature checked using whats called a noncontact inferred thermometer. I think its an extra precaution and i think that, you know, the fact theyre doing extra for everybody around and their employees is a great idea and thing to do.
