greyhound bus where a gunman shot and killed one person and wounded 5 others. it happened about 80 miles north of los angeles. the suspected gunman is 33-year- old anthony williams of maryland. he was riding on the bus and left los angeles for a trip to san francisco when he started shooting. the bus driver pulled to the side of the road. several other passengers immediately took action to stop him. >> they were able to overcome this subject and disarm him. they were able to escort him off of the bus without further incidents. >> one of the passengers a 51- year-old woman from columbia was killed. still no word about a possible motive in the shooting. a homeowner in bribane near san bruno avenue. police got a call about a home invasion robbery. when the officers arrived they found the suspect with a fatal gunshot wound. authorities say the person who lives in the home is safe and is being questioned about what led up to the shooting. a college student in the south bay say thieves raided her locker in the gym, stole her keys, and took her car. 19-year-old vi fham says she was in a rush. she didn't lock her locker. when she checked the parking lot her car was gone. there is surveillance video of the suspects. police needed to contact them for video. but police told her it was a low priority crime. >> all we need is a recording from 24 hours since they have a clear camera in the front so they can see who comes in and out. but it's not at the top of their list for them to call for the footage. >> 24-hour fitness says the club is aware of the incident and is working with local authorities. so far the suspect hasn't been caught and the car has not been found. the goal is to create a more integrated user-friendly transportation system. they all operate independently and that sometimes leads to confusion. the announcement later this morning will take effect in san francisco. back to sal. 4:16. what are you keeping an eye on, sal? >> we're looking at the far away commute, sam. i do see a nice-looking commute from solano county. you can kind of pull back and see that this whole area looks good. no major issues driving down to concord on 680 or on hercules to richmond and as you get down to the macarthur maze it's about a 15-minute drive. the average speed is 75 miles an hour. so someone out there is driving a little too fast. but for the most part it has been pretty good there. no problems approaching the bay bridge toll plaza. you know, you get going fast and you have mr. or mrs. chp find you and say hey. >> 75, i'm shocked by that. . all right. well believe it or not we're running significantly warmer this morning than yesterday except for one location. san jose is 2 degrees colder. livermore, napa, fairfield plus 12. santa rosa's a push. they're still 39. a lot of 41 observations. sfo, 50. 47 oakland airport. moraga 41. if you get the breeze, then it's held up. if you don't, it's like a rock. fremont's 36 but that is under severe clear as we final iesz banning landlords from investigating the criminal history of potential renters. unanimous preliminary approval was given to the fair chance housing orlando nans. if given approval, landlords won't be able to ask about criminal history. landlords can still look up people on the safe sex offender industry but only after providing a conditional offer to that potential renter. a new housing program in oakland is helping people who lost their homes. rob ross spoke with a 77-year- old woman that said it kept her from becoming homeless. >> a woman 77 years old wasn't aware of where she was going to go. washington's home for the last two years has been an apartment in this building. she says her building was sold. she was facing a rent increase and eventually faced an eviction notice. through a program called "keep oakland housed" it gave her emergency rent money to keep her stabilize and in her apartment. >> this is not uncommon. we have in our housing clinics we have numerous people that walk through our door. >> washington is one of approximately 4,000 people who were in imminent risk of homelessness the past year and a half who managed to keep a roof over their heads through oakland house. the city works with three non profits including catholic charities to help people before they become homeless. the program will offer a one- time emergency financial assistance to help with back rent. find legal services to fight evictions. >> we want to keep oakland oakland and that starts with keeping oaklanders in oeblgd. >> the first program in california that's also expanding to help those sleeping in cars or on couches. >> bha you do not want them to become is the habitually homeless. it is much cheaper and economically feasible to keep someone from becoming homeless. >> this pilot program is scheduled to last another 18 months, but city officials hope by then many of their provisions will have already become state policy. in oakland rob roth ktvu fox 2 news. california voters will have a chance to decide if they want to expand rent control policies. a new rent control law takes effect at the beginning of the year that limits the annual rent increase by 5%. but it does not apply to apartments built in the last 15 years or single family homes the new initiative will look to those units on the november ballot. a popular burger spot
