To try to make sure that all those people are safe, there is an emergency at evacuation center. There is an increased focus on security this year in light of the foiled Christmas Day terror attack on pier 39. A former marine, Everett Jamison is behind bars accused of planning an attack. That was thwarted. That plot is certainly unnerving. It should not stop people from celebrating on new years eve. We were down at pier 39 yesterday. We would just try to be as safe as possible and still enjoy living in this nice, beautiful area. Here are some of your top stories. The 17yearold boy is being investigated. This happened just before midnight on sunset avenue. The victim suffered a serious chest wound and died at the hospital. Investigators are asking for help to find the killer. A Memorial Service will be held tomorrow morning for an officer who was killed Christmas Eve when a suspected drunk driver crashed into his patrol car. The service will begin at 8 30 am. It will be open to the public. The driver who crashed into the patrol car is still in the hospital. Investigators say a 3year old boy in new york city playing with a stove caused a deadly deadly apartment house fire that killed 12 people. One child was 11 only one years old. His mother did not know he had turned on the stove until she heard him scream. She grabbed him and her other child and got out of the building. The flames spread quickly through the building. This was the deadliest fire in new york city and more than 25 years. Those are just a couple of your morning headlines. I will send it back to you. The legalization of marijuana on january 1 creates new issues for employers and employees. We have moral the impact on the workplace. Reporter a hazy cloud could obscure the clear vision between dues and donts at the workplace. Both companies and municipalities are reexamining employee use of marijuana during the workday. We have dealt with this for a few years. The recreationals have to have a different set of rules. Ricky doyle is the city attorney. They are subject to federal law. As such, the citys drugfree workplace policy states it is unlawful for the possession or use of a controlled substance by city employees. Violation of the policy can result in dismissal. The city adopted a strict no drug policy in the 1990s. You cant use any drugs. That includes alcohol. Marijuana . It is a drug. Any drugs. So alcohol and marijuana, you cant use those during the workday. That is a policy that has been on the books for number of years. It is incumbent upon the city to get that out and clarify it so everyone knows the rules. The drug test for employees in some occupations will continue. Santa clara county officials use a similar approach while tackling the same question about marijuana use. We are trying to make sure that people understand this is not a freeforall. Reporter the county is telling employees to treat marijuana use as they would beer or wine. If you cant be on your job in an altered state and under the influence of drugs. That includes marijuana x yes. That is right. People must be sober and alert. The conflict between state and federal law could be an issue. Under the trump administration, the d. O. G doj says greater enforcement could come in the nottoo distant future. The city of San Francisco has launched a Public Awareness campaign about the risks of marijuana. It will launch next year on social media. The campaign will stress the fact that the drug is illegal for those under the age of 21. Marijuana use in San Francisco is lower than the national average. A study showed that 71 of City High School students have never used marijuana. That compares to 59 of students nationwide. Oil is at the center of tensions. Much of that is in residential areas. Those people are dependent on a steady income. There has been an immense sub port for the community in general. The best way anyone can support is to come and visit. The wine country fires are the most destructive in history. Damages are estimated into the billions. The winery needs to reopen. They will have 20,000 roses on that float. Lastly, this is lucy pets. It is called pause for life. This is about celebrating and commemorating animals that have saved human lives. Then one that you probably have seen, this is tar the cat. This boy was being attacked by a dog. The cat took care of the dog and saved the boys life. That is just a little bit of what you will see.
