Off on tax reform until newly elected alabama senator doug jones is seated. Once that happens, the gop majority in the senate be tighter with a 5149 split. It would be wrong for Senate Republicans to jam through this tax bill without giving the newly elected senator from alabama the opportunity to cast his vote. Reporter republicans are scheduling votes for next week trying to meet the president s deadline by christmas. So even without doug jones in washington, dc, how much confidence is there that this bill will pass because there is still a couple of republicans senators who had some issues. Reporter youre right. A senator on the republican side came up with a question, they have met it negotiated, given them something. The wild card might be marco rubio. He wanted that 21 rate. He thought it should bump up to 20 or 21 for Corporate Taxes. But whats he getting in return . He wanted to help people on the lower income scale with that money. Instead its going to folks who make a Million Dollars a year. So he may not vote for it. Its not a done deal. But talking to republicans on capitol hill, they are ready to wheel and deal for any of the votes. They know they have to get every, single republican to get this through. A lot on the line for the president on this one in particular. Caroline shively live in washington, thank you. The alabama senatorelect doug jones is expected to be sworn in early next month. But so far his republican opponent roy moore has refused to concede. Alabama law allows an automatic recount if the winners margin of victory is less than half of 1 . Jones leads moore by more than 1. 5 with overseas and provisional ballots still to be counted. The alabama secretary of state says it is unlikely that the outcome will change. Today jones said the message of this election is that people want to find common ground. After elections, its a time for healing. Its a time for reaching out. Thats what i intend to do as once i can be sworn in. I told people that im going to try to be accessible to do town halls to try to reach out. I know this was a close election. Reporter ken, heather, this is a very lively meeting. An Autonomous Security robot deployed by the San Francisco spca has had its patrol area kept back until the agency gets permission to use it on public sidewalks. Tom vacar reports on the issue and the technology thats becoming more common. Reporter the San Francisco spca comprises a city block in a mostly Industrial Area but has some crime especially auto break ins. So the spca put an Autonomous Security robot on its campus as well as surrounding sidewalks and lo and behold, since canine has been on the job, campus burglaries, auto breakins and vandalism, says the spca, have been greatly reduced. If somebody is messing with it and they are trying to keep it from moving and doing its duty, then it will begin to sound an alarm and send an alert back to the operations center. Reporter today, there is but one tent, across the street where the robot never goes. Thought it was weird. I never seen anything like it. My dog constantly barked at it until about a week and then got used to it. Kind of irritating. Reporter the reason security robots are becoming so popular is they can work all three shifts, never get tired, they never take a nap, and they never call in sick. And they see everything. But still, humans have to interpret what they see. City officials have told the spca to no longer deploy them on public sidewalks until it gets a permit or it will face a 1,000 a day fine. Both the spca and sunnyvale based night scope say theres no intent to clear homeless out of the area but to make the spca campus safer for employees, visitors and the animals.
