Someone, tom petty, recently, only then do i go back and appreciate and dig into the history of someone i love listening to. I think because of time, we will have a lot more these days were some of the legends will pass and we will honor them by listening to the music. Its our duty to pass along, we recently did a road trip with my family, playing songs from decades ago. Nice. You were at the beach for the past couple days, and what a couple of days to be there. It was beautiful, i think steve said it was 90 along the california coast. I wasnt really expecting it, but there it was. It was in the 90s all the way down to monterey and even hotter in la. It was 1042105. Today will be cooler around 15 to 20 degrees cooler for some. Half moon bay was in the 60s and in the 50s now. San jose one yesterday, Half Moon Bay was at 92. Canfield tied at 88 degrees. Sunshine and warm temperatures, not as warm or hot as it was. We are still way above average. We should be around 68 to 74 and we arent even close to it. Temperatures will cool off. Redwood city is down five degrees. The 89 in san jose does check and 89 or higher, that would tie a record high of 89 and set one. The city is running 3 to 4 degrees cooler than they were 24 hours ago, but they were 89 degrees missing the record by one degree. They will only be 84 today, that is still way above average. Berkeley at 64, they were near 80 at this time yesterday. Big changes with upper 40s for lowes this morning. It will warm up. Still coming out of the oakland hills, about 20 to 25 miles per hour, you can see even from mount diablo, blackhawk, everybody has some easterly component. We will still be very warm. Even with temperatures coming down about 1 to 9 degrees, we are considerably warmer than we were. The high says no, i am reluctant to give up everything and it will be a temperature turn that stays warm. A couple 90s and 80s and a few 70s by the coast. Santa cruz did easily get to 90 again. Not much cooler into the weekend. Today is day number three in the trial of the undocumented immigrant who was charged with shooting and killing kate steinle at appear. Emotion in the courtroom as the mother was brought to tears. Lets look at what is ahead today. Reporter today, jurors are expected to hear from crime scene investigators who went to the scene after she was shot and killed in San Francisco on here 14 about 2 years ago. The jury heard testimony yesterday from witnesses and tourist who were there 2 years ago. The man on trial for Second Degree murder, josi mingus hosea garrotte days says he was handling the gun that was used in the shooting, but they maintain that the gun accidentally went off. It was stolen from a bureau of Land Management ranger a week before. The family has been in the courtroom all week. Her mother wept when prosecutors showed a photograph of her daughter on the peer moments before she was shot. Also visible was the man wearing a dark colored shirt sitting on a chair. It is effective. It is really effective. I doubt the da showed the parents that photograph and left them to react to the courtroom. Jurors watch that. That is the emotional part of the trial. That cuts right to your heart when you see that. It really brings home, theres a beautiful young woman whose life was taken because of this man. Does reporter witnesses say they saw him leave the peer after a single gunshot rang out. They say just before the shooting, he was sitting at the peer sitting and laughing. The behavior struck her as unusual. They say he was tearing at people in court and grinning inappropriately. They asked the attorney about the mental stability, and they said that at this point, they dont plan to argue that he is mentally incapable of standing trial. As a day 3 of the trial expected to continue about an hour from now. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison for seconddegree murder. Back to you. Arizona senator jeff lake announced he will not run for a second term. During a speech that targeted President Trump. Reckless, undignified behavior has become excused as telling it like it is what it is actually just reckless outrageous and undignified. Senator flake becomes the second senator to lash out at resident trouble. Bob corker who is also retiring has been involved in an ongoing twitter feud with the president. The president is not concerned about the loss of the senators. He wants people to be in the senate that are committed to actually moving the ball down the field. I dont inc. These two individuals necessarily have been as focused on that. The president wants to get things done. President trump had lunch with Senate Republicans yesterday on capitol hill where he continued to push his tax reform proposal. Before top candidates running for governor appear together for a forum yesterday, former los angeles mayor, gavin newsom, john chung, and Elaine Easton. The candidates outlined their stances at the form that was sponsored by the San Francisco chronicle. They say they plan to host a similar form for the republican candidates next year. Now joining us, joe carefully took place who took part yesterday. You cannot ask you one. California one. [ laughter ] i was working. I have a day job. What was the biggest divide from your perspective . Healthcare. And it is not so much a divide, it is a shade of gray. Two of the candidates newsom and Elaine Easton want universal coverage and singlepayer, and they are all in on that. But then some say its snake oil and i want to see with the Funding Sources and we still dont have a funding source. And john chung ever the accountant says i am for it in concept, but where is the money coming from . How much attention do you think voters are paying this early on and we have four similar candidates. It is a year out. It is even seven months from the primary. This is good to get to learn the candidates gradually. They have huge name recognition. They do and they dont. We dont know too much about antonio and john chung as had a few state offices. We dont know much about him. I was going to ask you about go so in the southland because everyone knows gavin newsom appear, is it the same thing for virgo so in los angeles . Hes done la, is spent the past month very quietly working through Southern California getting his name recognition up. He is talking about two californians, one california where we live in the bay area has done well, but we still have one out of every five people in California Living in poverty. That is what he is talking about. According to reports, newsom is a has amassed 16 million. His whole numbers are way up. Our unofficial poll had him way ahead. He has raised more money than i think everybody else combined. He has 16 million. The others have five or 6 million. In the polls, he is up. He is at 26 , that is in the field of several candidates. There are two Top Republican candidates, it is still early. We are way early, and people are still trying to figure out who these people are. Because it is 16 million, does that squeeze out some of the other candidates . Before even the primary . Know. I think everybody is still in the game. Newsom hasnt spent this money, we havent seen Television Commercials or radio. Is that where it would go . In the state like this you have to. Mistakes, forgiveness, he along with newsom have some blemishes on their personal record. How big a factor is character in Something Like the race . With that, it will be an unfolding story. Its an incredible ad, it is 12 minutes long, it cost about hundred thousand dollars to make, and it talks about the rugosa shows him going to the south of the border delivering water. It does talk about his, it alludes to an affair he had while mayor of los angeles, and it has two of his daughters and their talk about him talk about it and it says, it softens him. They both had affairs, is the affair card pulled out because one would want to use it against the other . I think that will be mutually assured destruction. I think we will write about it and we will hear about, but both those things are in the past. I think going on a decade now for each of them, so i think that will not be, it will be in the bag, but i dont think it will be front and center. We talked about the latino boat, do you see it playing an Important Role in california . Absolutely. That is key. I think the challenge there is a couple things, number one, latino boat is not as strong in off year elections, its not a president ial year. But if you count on the president ial the latino boat, you need to have fundraising, if that will be his strategy, he has to figure out some way to get the voters out that doesnt involve a lot of money. There is a republican form planned, but that is in i think that is january. Stay tuned. Dont kill me for giving a date out. Good to know. Thank you so much. Ooh, cookies ah, ah, ah laughter california lawmakers are taking steps after charges of widespread Sexual Harassment at the state capital. A Consulting Firm has been hired to review Sexual Assault policies. An independent investigator has been hired to look into claims of Sexual Harassment. The new report of harassment in the capital follow widespread allegations of assault from hollywood producer harvey weinstein. They plan to introduce legislation to combat a culture of harassment when these eight Legislature Reconvenes in january. Tom hanks speaking out saying that there were plenty of people in hollywood who knew what was going on. Another woman said weinstein forced himself on her in his apartment. Weinstein is completing a weeklong sex edition addiction clinic. This man was involved in multiple incidents, the 72year old director says he has no recollection of the accusers and he denies the claim. Alyssa milano revived the movement with the hashtag me to encouraging women who had been sexually assaulted or harassed to tweet me to as a status. That would give people a sense of the magnitude of the problem. The hashtag has reached 85 countries and has been tweeted some 1. 7 million times. Joining me now to talk more, thank you for being here. Thank you. I was reading the twitter story. There are so many similarities, the woman is typically young, the person on the other side is typically older. Its a status of power either in the workplace or relationship. Power is a huge dynamic and Sexual Violence because Sexual Violence is an issue of power, its violence. One of the advantages of having the conversations is we can reveal the root of the problem and it is more than just boys being boys. A lot of women are being faced with why did you tweet take so long to tweet about it . I think the very simple answer has to do with shame. I think that oftentimes women arent even aware, and i would say women and men, there are victims on both sides, but they are not even aware of the magnitude of the trauma of the psychological impact of what has actually happened to them and that they have actually been demise. 85 conservatively of people violated are violated by someone they know and trust. You dont really believe that what is happening is actually happening when it is someone you know and trust. The suspension of disbelief, when you are in shock of what he did to me, can i lean on you to perhaps give us a phrase or something to talk in the back of our minds when we sense that things are going way off course . At the root of the question, there is a lot of the burden of the responsibility around Sexual Violence being on the victim rather than the perpetrator. The only person that can prevent Sexual Assault as the perpetrator. When an individual has been victimized or traumatized, they are just in shock, they dont understand the full measure of what has happened to them. So i feel like with this conversation we are having around some of the individuals, it is taken them a year or 2 years sometimes 3 years or decades to come forward, it takes that long to digest and to have the ability to speak out about it. A lot of people were saying they were afraid to go to hr because they thought that hr would protect the aggressor, tell me more about that delicate dynamic. It is delicate. Oftentimes, the Sexual Harassment happens on the work place like the weinstein situation. These are directly related to your success or your ability to earn money. It is just a difficult, muddy, complicated terrain to navigate. I would say on a generic hr level, document everything. Document when you have spoken out, document when you had checked in with an hr professional, you looked at whistleblower policies, you should be protected, but unfortunately, so any people are not protected by the policies they see in black and white. They need to continue to speak out and not be afraid, to hold accountable the people in power that are abusing them. Ive seen men speaking out thing that i did this in my past, i left at this kind of a joke, i highfived a buddy when he does offensive behavior, and i will not do that anymore. Where is the responsibility for men . Responsibility is great for men, i think that individuals who are taking accountability and taking responsibility and acknowledging culpability and sexually violent behaviors and attitudes is a huge gift to everyone. You always hear folks say, how do you prevent Sexual Assault, go out to your go out with your friends and go to 2 x 2, we need to teach rapists not to rate, we need to teach young men and women to be respectful of peoples bodies, to be respectful of their voices. So men have a huge potential and opportunity to help take a stand and reduce the violence that we are saying, it is huge. Back to the weinstein case is, a lot of actresses said when they had their meetings, they were young and were being looked at for very sexually alluring roles, they were going to play a gorgeous woman on the screen, but had a hard time answering the question of, can i still be sexy . Can i play a sexy role, that is not asking for it. Its not asking for it. It is flattering when someone in power, when someone famous affirms your beauty, when you make it. The hollywood hustle is a big puzzle, when you actually get in the door, you are willing to do whatever it takes to protect that. However, the people in power are also exploiting that. We want to empower all individuals that have been impacted by Sexual Violence to give themselves permission, take themselves off the hook. They may have made a different decision at 40 than they did at 21. We have hindsight. When you are young and havent given yourself permission to stand out against those in power a bowl behaviors, that is what happens. Your organization, bay area women against rape has been doing this for a long time, do you think this is a watershed moment . Will change happen . Those of us who are in the movement, we would say yes and we are not surprised. The question has been posed to me several times, is this an increase . No. This has always been happening. Now folks are feeling the freedom and liberation to actually speak out about it. Now that it is being exposed from the top down, we are seeing the tolerance of Sexual Violence from the top down coming out of washington dc. So now that it is being exposed, i think the opportunity is grady greater for us to do something. Sarah crainpope, thank you for joining me. Without pg es assistance, without their training our collaboration with pg e is centered around Public Safety. We could not do our mission to keep our Community Safe. Anytime we are responding to a structure fire, one of the first calls you make is for pg e for gas and electric safety. Its my job to make sure that they have the training that they need to make the scene safe for themselves and for the public. Its handson training actually turning valves, turning systems off, looking at different wire systems all that training is crucial to keeping our Community Safe and our firefighters safe. Together, were building a better california. Ktvu fox 2 and ktvu plus, the power of 2. Cal fire Officials Say all four of the northbay fires are expected to be completely contained before the weekend. The latest numbers show that the atlas fire is now 96 contained. Thats the largest containment out of all wires. The smallest is the pocket fire which is 90 contained. Fire crews are still a little nervous because of the Current Conditions out there. The hot weather and wind is a worry for them if it begins to pick up again. Cleanup is now getting underway in the northbay as homeowners hope to rebuild. We are live in santa rosa to talk about cleaning up the toxic debris. Reporter a lot of activity here today, cleaning up the toxic debris, cleaning up the nontoxic debris, that is whats going on. You can see here lining up to begin the process of removing nontoxic debris. We will get to that in a moment. Well, there are epa crews adding out today to clean up the toxic materials left over after the wildfires. Epa is doing surveys today. They are going to some neighborhoods and they are going to start looking for Hazardous Material such as like a propane tank or paint containers, pesticides, all of that. Reporter on saturday, the governor signed an executive order allowing epa officials to begin the process of removing toxic waste which poses an immediate threat to the public. It is a critical First Step Towards cleaning up and rebuilding some of the 6700 homes that burned and northbay wildfires. Homeowners who have lost everything are starting to show up hoping that once the toxic cleanup is complete, they confessed track nontoxic debris clean up for things like concrete and ash left over after the fire. We have done everything we can up to this point. Now it is start the ball rolling , get the site cleared, get it prepared and ready to go for rebuilding. Reporter here is a list of some of the items that residents who are coming in for the right of entry form and the form to be signed today what they need, they need government issued id, Insurance Information , their assessors parcel number, signatures of the owners and trustees, some of this stuff can be worked out here. They will have staff on hand to help residents through the process. The department here is also describing this as working in lock steps. As the epa crew comes through and surveys the area and finds the toxic materials, they can have a cleanup crew come in behind them, cleanup the toxic materials, then after that, the army corps can begin the removal of the nontoxic cleanup process. Again, this is an ongoing process. Folks are looking to get that underway as quickly as possible. The question of the day is, have you made any changes since the northbay wildfires. 2 say you bought fire insurance, 6 say you cleared brush, 22 say you repaired a go back a, 70 of you say youve done nothing. This man says nothing because i already have a go back. This mans as i took inventory of myself and i stored important papers in the cloud and have a good cpa and attorney. I just got a heart raking tweet nine minutes ago from j richard paulus, he says we lost everything, my advice is to make copies of all the important documents, take pictures of all valuables. Keep them in a safe deposit box. Every year, update your insurance and thank you for sending the tweet. Im sorry you had to send it under those circumstances. The idea of keeping things at the ready and saving special things, having clothes and pictures saved on files ready to go. I cant say ive stored anything in a cloud. I think thats a good idea. I have a safe deposit box. You have a young family. They are just sitting there in the closet. What about your pictures . Not enough. I dont store it in the cloud. Not enough. Take you for talking to us and using the hashtag. A benefit concert will be held including Dave Matthews and metallica to support the victims of the wildfires. Tickets range from 50 200. Some of the best seats will be reserved for firefighters and First Responders and volunteers. There is another chance to help with the north bay wires, chipotle will be donating 100 of proceeds to the fire efforts. The money will be donated to the napa valley Immunity Foundation and the Community Foundation of sonoma county. Customers simply need to visit one of the locations and mentioned the northbay wildfires to the cashier or payment. The warriors are playing the raptors, and Clay Thompson is pledging a donation based on how many points he scored. He will donate 1000 for every point he scores in the warriors next three games at oracle. He also encourages fans to pledge a donation of their own for every point he scores. So far, he is averaging 21 points a game. According to the california growers association, at least 30 marijuana harms suffered crop losses in the wildfires, a number that could increase. 13. 5 Million Pounds of marijuana were produced last year making it the largest marijuana producing state in the country. As retail sales of Recreational Marijuana are said to begin january 1, this fire could cost the state millions of dollars in revenue. We are joined this morning by david downs, cannabis editor and coauthor of the book marijuana harvest. How big of a hit is this a for the industry . And talk about the timing, specifically. Consumers wont notice because california grows so much cannabis and the industry will absorb the losses, but in Mendocino County and sonoma county, it was devastating. There is more than 100 farms lost hundreds of millions of dollars, over 1 billion done in damage. This happened at the peak of damage, so that which did not burn, it suffered horrible smoke damage, they dont have access to Small Business loans or to fema, a were often not insured or had the wrong insurance. They had on cash savings on site because they couldnt use banks. They are completely wiped out. The money also burned up . We have reports of that as well. They have nowhere to put it. If it wasnt taken with them and it was in the house, they lost it. Had this fire happened a year from now, would insurance, mortgage, ima, any of this kick in, or no because the federal government still thinks its illegal . At the federal level, you will get help, but the smaller level, there is interest in helping. A year from now, it couldve had more really, this couldnt have come at a worst time. You said when you first started here, they grow so much marijuana in the state, the prices are probably not going to go up despite the loss . We are growing 13 1 2 Million Pounds like or at five pounds goes out of state. Like four out of five pounds goes out of state. Everyone was growing a bumper crop in anticipation of recreational, more was said to the market, flood the market, and depressed prices. Now what they are expecting his prices not to go as far back down and in fact allow some of the operators to stay in the market one more year. You talk about the individuals losing not only their farms but their homes, cash, not insured. Are you hearing stories that people are just going to get out of the business . Are they going to rebuild knowing what is ahead of them starting january 1, and try to get back into it as soon as possible . It will clearly wipe out a class of small mom andpop growers that were hanging on by a thread. Its the bigger growers that can go back to investors for tens of millions of dollars more to deal with warehouses that burned out. Where do we stand just months before legalization. Some cities are trying to find their footing. Im telling people to renew their medical card. It will be 18 to 24 months of turbulence in the markets before we see clarity, maybe 1 of california jurisdictions will be open for business on new years day. That includes santa cruz to berkeley, maybe san diego, maybe santa anna, not emphasis go, and not oakland were politics and red tape will slow the roll out of this. The San Francisco chamber of commerce sent a letter to the city saying lets get going and what medical dispensaries sell recreational. The personal rights to grow and possess have already kicked in. Its just the commercial stuff that will be slow going. I heard a funny and or a hollowing party, and they were just about to say, they did white say, they said its a 420 deadly party, they are saying this 420 friendly party. They were saying this on the radio. Weve had medical for 21 years. It is clearly a fabric, part of the fabric for california culture. You will see the surface of the fabric more and more. Certainly with the personal gifting rules, im an adult 21 and older, im allowed to give you an ounce. David downs, cannabis editor for the seven cisco chronicle. Thank you.
