But we are doing today is twofold. The first thing is we are protecting homes. What we need to do is get a parameter. One of the ways we do that is to try to get the fuel away from here. What we did was we had a backfire. We have to go. Reporter that is what happened when we were interviewing a fire chief Sonoma County. They got called off when the fire started moving. It has since settled down. He shared cell phone video from the tubs fire sunday night. In Sonoma County he was describing a wall of fire they encountered. Lets start with the latest on the investigation and what is the biggest concern tonight. Reporter actually you have amber for Public Information officer. Chris was unable to do it. I am filling in. As far as the investigation for the fires we dont have any information. Directly related to that. They are under investigation. We talked to the Mendocino County sheriff yesterday about having enough resources. There is so many fires going on in Northern California right now. Especially in wine country. Do you guys have enough to get the job done . We could always use more. We are getting more resources some of the other fires wrap up. Some of those resources are becoming available. We are utilizing them had here. Reporter weve talked about the number of homes destroyed in Sonoma County. In Mendocino County how many structures have been lost are being threatened . We have about 1000 structures threatened currently. Within our incident. The number of structures that have been destroyed is 245. The singlefamily residence that have been damaged is up to 15. We did have two commercial structures that have been damaged. None have been destroyed. We have eight one 24 other minor structures destroyed with 26 damage. It is quite significant. How about containment . How far along are you and what lies ahead . What is your biggest concern . For containment it hasnt moved much in the last 12 hours. Neither has our acreage. We are hoping to see the numbers up when we get the evening update tonight. With the redwood fire at 34,000 acres and 10 contained. 2500 acres with 55 containment. As far as our biggest concern right now, there are two primary things. We have been able to repopulate many of the areas that were under evacuation orders along both fires. Which poses a concern for us having citizens in and within the fire area. This is an area that has gone through a lot in the last week. We still have roadways that have been impacted. Power lines and utility. There are crews working everywhere. That is the not a threat. Just another thing we are working with so that we can make sure citizens can get back to their home. The second thing still that threat of wind. Earlier in the week they were forecasting potential red flag conditions with wind gusts Strong Enough to elevate it. It has downgraded quite a bit. Not quite to the level it is going to be we want to urge the homeowners. Even though those orders have been downgraded the threat is still there. They need to stay tuned to their news resources and fire information. As result sunday night and monday morning the situation can turn rapidly. We are just getting word there was a 3. 7 earthquake in Mendocino County. The Redwood Valley area right where the fire is burning. Do you know anything about that or how an earthquake would impact the firefight . I dont know anything about that. Im at the incident command post in yreka. I can say we did not feel anything or notice anything. I dont know if it would affect the fire at all. Probably utilities would be the first thing coming to mind. You are north of the fires if you are in yreka. We have looked at the map. It looks like the fires is close to 101 going up. Are there a number, it is a little north the willis area. Is there a lot of homes in that area . It is still relatively rural area compared to the homes down in napa closer to the bay area. There is still quite a bit decent size population appear. We have to deal with the dissemination of information and communication. A lot of areas are more rural. Hillsides and ridges often block the cellular communication that people rely on. That can contribute to an increased problem if we are trying to get information or receive information from those people. Amber amberson from cal fire giving us the latest information in Mendocino County. We wish you the best. We just spoke 3. 7 earthquake in Mendocino CountyMendocino CountyRedwood Valley. There is never enough Law Enforcement to patrol the areas. We count on the community numbers to keep an eye out and help us remain vigilant. Taking advantage of people who have lost everything and people under such compromising situations is disgusting. I cannot believe there are people out there. Unfortunately there are people like that.
