Good news, the heat advisories and the heat warnings, theyre gone. They expired 9 00 tonight. All the maps that showed you the yellows and reds, the colors are off the maps because those warnings are no longer in effect. Thats a good sign well be cooling things off in to your monday. Changes to our south though, clouds and some showers that could impact the bay area forecasting your monday labor day. At least the cloud cover. Well talk more about that coming up in just a few minutes. In petaluma, a 17yearold girl reacted quickly to save her younger sister from a potentially deadly situation. The 3yearold was trapped inside a very hot car. The door of the car accidentally closed because it was parked on an incline. The key fob that operated the door was locked inside along with the little girl. Her older sister though, in quick thinking. She called 911 right away and firefighters were able to free the girl in five minutes or less by breaking the windows. In situations like these, they say it is very important to call for help immediately because the car can heat up so fast. The little girl was taken to the hospital, firefighters say shes doing okay. Record setting heat wave had people heading to bay area beaches, rob malcolm in San Francisco where there were tense moments when beach goers were caught offguard by the strong rip tides. Reporter within minutes of our arrival at ocean beach, and with the cameras rolling, a father and son were rescued from the waters. The rescue specialists frantically swimmed, joined by other water craft. The father and son right now just happy to be on solid ground. Pretty scary, actually. Went out just a little ways, having some fun and before i knew it, i was out pretty far. I knew they were going to save us and stuff. But, i was actually pretty worried for a second. Reporter warning signs are posted here, a reminder that it only takes seconds to find certain death at ocean beach. Notorious for rip tides, the shape of the shoreline and a bottom with steep drop offs shaved by the changing powerful waves. The mother who witnessed the rescue was still nervously shaking. I pretty much played it play by play, here comes the rip tide, they started to drift further and further and i got up started walking, next thing i know, two life guards are coming in. Reporter according to the National Park service, 100,000 visitors flock to the beach on saturday. The numbers were still very high on sunday. Ocean beach encompasses three miles and is patrolled by four specialists. We have a number of ocean rescue specialists on site at the beach. However, they are not life guards. Theyre trained for ocean rescue. But that is not their primary function. Reporter they also educate and point out the dangers. 11 rescues took place on saturday and sundays caught on camera served as a wake up call. Ocean beach is not a swimming beach, i want to make that clear. Folks should not go in to the water above their knees. Reporter this surfer who witnessed the rescue knows this all too well. The tide coming in, i knew the rip was pretty strong roorchblths the rule is, if you get caught, swim parallel to the shore and swim your way back. One of the most dangerous beaches in the country largely due to the fact of the shape of californias coastline. From ocean beach, rob malcolm, ktvu news. Relief in texas, Recovery Efforts continue in areas devastated by Hurricane Harvey. President trump designated today as a national day of prayer, victims look for guidance. Thousands displaced and at least 44 are dead in texas and louisiana from a storm that left many areas underwater. Helicopters are now taking in basic supplies like clean water because the Water Treatment plant was contaminated by the flood leaving thousands without water. Have you been able to drink any water like, from your sink or are you having to get bottles . Weve been able to get bottles. Northeast of houston, fire officials began a controlled burn at a Chemical Plant damaged by the hurricane. Unstable chemicals have caught fire in recent days prompting evacuations. So authorities are burning off the remaining chemicals. Also, a curfew continues in houston to prevent any potential looting or other crimes. 70 cats and dogs affected by Hurricane Harvey arrived in San Francisco from texas in need of homes. These animals were previously homeless before the hurricane. Reporter its a fresh start for these fourlegged friends brought here to safety to the bay area from Hurricane Harveys devastating floods. It was a really emotional scene, they were crying. A lot of the, hardcore volunteers were crying when we left. They were so happy and excited that we could take so many animals. Reporter Shirley Franklin founded monroe, one of four bay area rescue groups along with the San Francisco spca, the Milo Foundation and mad dog rescue, taking care of 69 dogs and cats from the austin pets alive shelter. Theyre helping the austin shelter clear space and make room since its now flooded with tens of thousands of animals who have lost their homes or families displaced from the hurricane. By bringing in these animals and finding them homes here in the bay area, those shelters will be able to rescue those animals and hopefully ultimately reunite them with their own families. Reporter the animals brought here by a private jet donated by sonomabased charlies acres that left at 7 00 in the morning from oakland with crates and kennels filled with supplies, including vaccines, flea and tick medications and antibiotics donated to texas. I think the hearts of animal lovers all over the United States have really gone out. I mean, we feel so much for the victims of the flood. And some of those victims are fourlegged. Reporter the San Francisco spca helped rescue animals from Hurricane Katrina saying many pets get lost in the chaos and the major disaster. The harkening back to that day and the devastation we saw then is manage that really gave us the impetus to do this now. Reporter this couple adopted a new kitten from the spca, wondering what happened to the pets left behind in the hurricane. Animals suffer so much in this types of disasters. As much as humans do too. And im really glad that theres work being done to help rescue and save. Dogs that are coming from sad situations come here and everything turns around. They get a new beginning. Reporter the spca in San Francisco will have 15 dogs and 15 cats. Mudville senior dog rescue will have 15 dogs and the other two groups, mud dog rescue and milo will have the rest, all of them available for adoption by the end of this week. In San Francisco, im azenith smith. An east bay effort to bring badly needed supplies to Hurricane Harvey victims. Members of the Sikh Community are organizing, gathering supplies and filling an 18wheeler that will take off for beaumont, texas near houston on wednesday night. Now, fa rad says the donations are coming from everyone, not just the Sikh Community. We all need to come together. They need us so well be there. God forbid, what if we needed somebody, we would want them to come support us and help us as well. She says her brother came up with the idea and is the one with the truck. But she says if the donations dont all fit in the one truck, they will just get more vehicles. Thousands of people meantime who lost their cell phones and computers during Hurricane Harvey also lost sentimental photos, videos and documents stored on the devices. Now bay area Data Recovery company is stepping in to help. Nevadabased drive safers says it will get data from those for fee. The company that is handling the devices carries some risks because the water theyre in is so contaminated. But they say its a risk theyre willing to take to help Harvey Victims get back some of the photos and videos that otherwise would be lost. Hearts go out to the people going through this, we know it will be many months to years to really get through it all. And we just hope we can help out as many people as possible. One company says the Data Recovery service usually costs several thousand dollars. But anyone who was in harveys path will be eligible to get the service for free. Mega star taylor swift is making a very generous donation to help those affected by harvey. Swift has reportedly donated 1. 5 million to the houston food bank. She joins others stepping up to help victims of Hurricane Harvey. She made the donation in honor of her mom who graduated from the university of houston.
