We have the heat warning did not just cover the bay area but now it was for a while just the bay area minus San Francisco. They put San Francisco into a heat warning. Thats huge not only that, the flex alerts relating to the idea that we have heat warnings and advisories from redding to southern california. Over 35 Million People under some kind of heat advisory. Thats huge. So when i come back were going to talk about when its going to cool down because its not tomorrow. A little bit tomorrow but its going to be hot again tomorrow. Well talk about that and then about the cooling opportunities we have down the road. In the south bay, san joses school doesnt have air conditioning in all its classrooms so the district provided cases of bottled water and gatorade dispensers filled with water and orange slices. They also had fans going in the morning. In the afternoon, they had all the younger kids go to common areas that do have air conditioning to hopefully keep cool. The district also says they did think about cutting the schoolday short. The challenge is with our families some of our families work two jobs. It becomes difficult for them to take the day of off to keep students at home. As of right now, there are plans and money set aside to get airconditioning in the remaining schools. Some other School Districts did send students home early. Officials are hoping the weather will cool down before School Reopens following the labor day holiday. People are cranking up their airconditioners this afternoon to stay cool and that has prompted official to issue a statewide flex alert asking californians to conserve. Alyana gomez is live now in the newsroom with the details. Reporter pg e has already told us about a number of Power Outages across the bay area. They appear scattered. The largest outage is in oakland actually thats in San Francisco with 10,000 being reported right now. Also in oakland just south of lake merritt where theres about 2600 customers without power. This is exactly why the states independent system operator made the voluntary request for people to scale back their Energy Consumption between 1 p. M. And 10 p. M. The agency is asking people to avoid using large appliances like washers and dryers and dishwashers and to keep the thermostat higher than 78 degrees. For us even just one degree difference can mean hundreds of megawatts that well have to generate. So if its 100 degrees out, that we saw yesterday and prepared for, but today gets to be 101, we can have to generate hundreds more megawatts just to meet that extra degree. Reporter pg e said on twitter today that no ones power will be turned off for the next few days over billing matters saying with temperatures this high, it simply just isnt safe to leave people without power. Now, finally its worth pointing out that many people in the bay area dont have air conditioning as was mentioned already. So its a good idea to check on your neighbors and pay close attention to the pets, make sure they are not overheating. Thank you. The plant is in crosby which is northeast of houston. The plant lost power during the storm and lost the refrigeration that keeps the chemicals stable. Another container of organic peroxide exploded and caught fire yesterday and burnedout after about 9 hours. A 1. 5mile radius around the plant has been evacuated. The company says the safest course of action here is to let these fires burn out on their own. Tonight at least 39 people are now confirmed dead in texas as a result of the storm. 120,000 other people in Southeast Texas are without clean drinking water. And harvey has displaced more than a Million People across the gulf coast region. Fox reporter ellison barber is in houston in the area around houston tonight with more. Ellison. Reporter for many people here in houston as soon as they think the area is drying up more problems are added to the list. Some people were trying to come home today to look at the damage to their homes. Other people like this neighborhood where i am now are told they need to evacuate. My whole neighborhood is flooded out. Reporter one week after harvey first hit texas, many houston area neighborhoods are still under water. And from houston east into louisiana, rescue crews are continuing to search homes. In beaumont, there is no clean public drinking water. Floodwaters have knocked out the citys Water Treatment plant. For the second day in a row, Baptist Hospital in beaumont has been moving patients to other hospitals. We survived a storm including 45 inches of rain. So we thought it was business as usual. And then yesterday morning we received a call at 1 00 a. M. That said the city had lost the water source. Reporter other challenges here include gas shortages, clearing mud from roads and dealing with mountains of potentially toxic trash. President trump, who plans to visit this weekend, has declared sunday a national day of prayer. We invite all americans to join us as we continue to pray for those who have lost family members and friends and for those who are suffering from this great crisis. Reporter we are in a west houston neighborhood right now called gessner and this area where the flood is, is expected to rise because the army corps of engineers is releasing water from two reservoirs for the next 15 days. The mayor of houston is telling people in this neighborhood if theres water in your home, get out now because if you dont leave now, you may be stuck without power for up to 15 days. Ellison, when you talk to people there, how are they doing . I cant even imagine what the stress level must be like given that this has been going on now for almost a week. Reporter yeah. And for a lot of people in this neighborhood, they kind of thought maybe it was over. I mean, they know they live near Buffalo Bayou where they are releasing water from the reservoir but for a lot of these people they got home and maybe found their homes didnt have a lot of damage but because they have to do these controlled releases to prevent something worse from happening during the next rainstorm now their homes are getting more damages so theres this back and forth where people are maybe grateful that the homes seemed to be kind of spared compared to other places and now they find out they have a whole nother rough week, 15 days ahead of em. Neighbors in Pacific Heights called 911 this afternoon after seeing break smoke billowing from the chimney. It was an unusual sight on a spare the air day when the temperature climbed above 100 degrees. Fire crews told ktvu there was no need for alarm saying people inside were simply burning something in their fireplace. I think they are burning sensitive documents. We are leaving the bay area. A motorcade accompanied the hearse of fallen Sacramento CountyDeputy Robert french to a funeral home this morning. The 21year veteran was shot and killed wednesday while responding to a car theft investigation. Two chp officers were also shot. That happened outside the sacramento area motel and they are now recovering. The shooting suspect and a woman, who led officers on the highspeed pursuit, tied to the investigation, are both from the bay area. 32yearold Thomas Littlecloud of Castro Valley is now hospitalized. He is in Critical Condition after he was shot by officers. 23yearold Priscilla Prendez of oakland was held on 150,000 bail. She is charged with felony vehicle theft and evasion. Reporter rina nakano spoke to her about her troubled life. Reporter two days after the deadly shootout to the ramada inn in sacramento, i met with the woman whose arrest started it all it the yolo county jail. We were only allowed to take notes. No video. She appeared lost, naked, covered with just a green protective smock after being placed on suicide watch. When i asked her about the trouble she is in, she said, quote, how did i end up like this . Sometimes i want to end my life. Prendez says she and her boyfriend of six months, Thomas Littlecloud, the man accused of killing Sacramento County sheriff Robert French and wounding two chp officers wednesday, went to the ramada inn often to get away from the bay area. She also said the hotel is where she met many of her repeat clients. Prendez said, quote, i started prostituting at 16. I have to do it to survive. Hours before the tragic incident, officers say they saw prendez and another woman get into a stolen bmw at the ramada inn. When they tried to pull her over, they say she led them on a highspeed chase all the way to elk grove where she was later arrested. She said, quote, i was scared. I hesitated. And so i did high speeds. Prendez claims she had no idea the car was stolen. She also told us she didnt know littlecloud was armed or that he would shoot at officers when they executed a search on her motel room. But after hearing about the charges against them, she says she hasnt slept or eaten. She apologized for what happened. She said, quote, im sorry things had to end up like they did. I love him. But he is stupid for what he did. I should have been there for him. In woodland, rina nakano, fox news. Prendez also said this wasnt her first runin with the law. She said she has been arrested about 10 times mostly tore car theft and admitted to leading Oakland Police and u. S. Marshals on a highspeed chase in 2015. Prosecutors will seek hate crime charges against a San Francisco woman who they say shoved another woman off a train platform because she was asian. Police arrested a 51yearold woman on suspicion of aggravated assault and elder abuse. Witnesses say yesterday morning, she shoved an 81year old woman off of a muni platform on the t3rd streetlight rail line after making statements about the older womans ethnicity. Police later located miller, who witnesses identified as the assailant. The victim fell on the pavement and hurt her head but she is expected to survive. Investigators are seeking more information about a person of interest in the death of an east bay musician. 40yearold David Deporis of oakland was sitting at a cafe on telegraph avenue in oakland last month when a man stole his laptop. Police say deporis chased the robber and was then dragged to death by a getaway car. Today Police Released a photo of a vehicle similar to that getaway car. A midsized red audi suv. Take a look at this. Here are three separate photos of a man who police are now calling a person of interest in the case. Crimestoppers of oakland is offering a 15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. All right. Get your camera out. Your phone, i guess most people have phones. Underground equipment was overloaded due to heat. It was one of several outages. At 1 00 p. M. There were 2700 customers without power around the bay area. By 3 p. M. That number was down to 1500. Of course, safety first. But we want to get our customers back online as soon as possible. Reporter at pg es fremont distribution facility, they have been planning for this heat wave for days. They had hundreds of transformers prepped an ready to go and even more equipment staged in the areas they expected to get hit hard. For customers, theres a flex alert through 10 p. M. Pg e is asking people to conserve energy as best they can. That means putting off using your washer, dryers, vacuums, and your ovens. If you need to heat food, use the microwave. Train speeds are being reduced and targeted parts of the system as a precaution. Bart tracks have been heat treated. The officer ordered the nurse to take blood from an unconscious patient but she told the officer she needed a warrant which he didnt have. Thats when things turned ugly. Youre under arrest reporter Nurse Alex Wubbels was handcuffed and forced into a police car after refusing to let the officer draw blood from an unconscious patient involved in a fatal car accident on july 26th. Reporter the nurse said the officer could not draw blood without the patients consent, an order from a judge or if the victim was a suspect. I was just trying to do it the right way.
