We have just learned that the Ongoing Police investigation near Mount Eden High School that we told you about at 4 30 was a shooting. It is now an apparent Homicide Investigation. Police are not sharing a lot of details but neighbors just told allie rasmus that they just heard gunshots in the area. They also witnessed the coroners van arriving a short time ago. The Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office is investigating a shooting that happened last night near the Oakland Airport hilton and alex savidge is is in oakland following that investigation. Alex. Reporter good morning to you, pam. We are trying to figure out why the Contra Costa County District Attorneys Office is investigating this shooting that happened last night in oakland. Close to the Oakland Airport. At the Oakland Airport hilton that is across the street from us here. The scene has been cleared by Law Enforcement officials. We did see a couple Police Officers standing guard near the front entrance but they have since left. We do know shots were fired on the grounds here at the hilton. A major Police Response from Oakland Police after one person was shot were told on the property here. It does not appear the shooting happened in a room but it was else somewhere on the ground. Its unclear who fired thoses but we can tell you when we talked to Oakland Police this morning, they referred all questions to the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office. When we heard back from the Sheriffs Office, they told us we had to speak with members of the Contra Costa County District Attorneys Office. We reached out to deputy da this morning. Were hoping to hear back with more details on this shooting last night at the Oakland Airport hilton. But certainly, pam a lot of questions as to why Law Enforcement officials are investigating a shooting that happened here in the city of oakland. I will say. Very interesting. Sources tell us the sergeant was shot in the hip. We are told he is expected to survive. The shooting happened at 1 30 yesterday morning outside of a home on Martin Luther king junior way. You might remember it tied up that road for quite some time. A sergeant and another officer went to a home to question a 49 yearold man about a sexual assault. Before police had a chance to talk with him, he came out and opened fire with an assault rifle. They also say the gun was equipped with an extended 30 round magazine. The two officers returned fire, hit the man and he died at the hospital. Time is 6 05. Here is the latest on the rocky fire. Cooler temperatures, little humidity. The rocky fire is now 62,000 acres. Its only 12 contained. Yesterday firefighters worked on putting out spot fires that jumped highway 20. Ive heard and spoken to firefighters with 2040 years on the job and they say this is unprecedented. They havent seen fire behave like this in their entire career. Cal fire says more than 6300 homes are in danger by the rocky fire right now. One wine maker is closely watching. Look at these pictures. Closely watching the fire. Two sheriffs deputies risked their lives to pull a driver to safety seconds before a cal train slammed into his car. Janine de la vega is joining us from sunnyvale with this incredible video. Janine. Reporter the two transit officers who helped this man are being called heros. They saw a car drapped on the Railroad Tracks and they didnt rose state to help. You can see a crash and the man getting pulled by an officer to safety. It happened last night. Two sheriffs deputies the car had crashed into the crossing gate and the driver was still inside. A sheriffs spokesman told us one of the deputies ran down the tracks to show down the train while the other deputy helped the man. I really had no choice. These kinds of incidents arent just hard for the families of the victims, they are hard for our engineers and crews on board the train. We are so grateful that tragedy was averted because these two deputies were in the right place at the right time. Reporter the Sheriffs Department says it appears the driver was under the influence but that is not confirmed yet. He was take ton the hospital for minor injuries. This accident is under investigation. This did cause delays up to 45 minutes. But both tracks reopened for service just before 8 00 last night. It is partially blocking one of the northbound lanes on mary avenue because they are making repairs to the crossing gate that was damaged. A palo alto for police need your help to find the three men. A 19yearold woman opened the door and told the man her family had not ordered a pizza and started to close the door but he stopped her. He pushed his way into the home and followed by two suspects that were Wearing Masks. One was holding a gun and the other was holding a knife. When the womens mother and father confronted the suspects they took off running. The other two men were Wearing Masks so the family was not able to get a description of them. Anyone with information is asked to call palo alto police. Right now there is not enough money to properly take care of San Francisco parks. The chronicle reports spending has dropped to 1. 2 . Later today the jury in the trial of colorado Movie Theater shooter james holmes they will hear testimony from survivors and relatives of the victims. This is the the last phase of holmes sentencing hearing. The jury left open the possibility of the death sentence for holmes in that 2012 mass shooting where 12 people were kill the and several were hurt. The jury will then decide if james holmes should be sentence sentenced to death or spend life in prison without parole. A man accused of shooting and killing a Police Officer in tennessee turned himself into authorities. As weve been reporting this week, he is accused of shooting officer sean bolton in memphis saturday night. Officer bolton interrupted a drug deal. Weve always been one step behind him. Well we were one step ahead of him. I think he was thinking the walls were closing in. At the time of the shooting willborn was on probation for a bank robbery. Today he will make a Court Appearance and will be charged with first degree murder. Lunger was shot and killed during a traffic stop two weeks ago. Now the organization police and fire the fallen heros they are putting together a fundraiser at famous daves barbecue restaurant in hayward. The rest restaurant is donating 35 of the proceeds to a trust fund for the lunger family. Famous dave is at 790 west winton avenue in hayward. The fund raising starts at 11 00 a. M. And goes until 11 00 p. M. The city wants to make sure light posts around the city are safe after one comes crashing down on a car. The pole narrowly missed hitting a driver. Officials say that rust at the base caused it to collapse. The Public Utilities Commission Says the city has launched an Assessment Program to visually inspect the light posts every day for the next year. The bottom of the pole was rusted out and that contributed to the pole falling down. Neighbors and city Officials Say part of the problem is that dogs are using the light poles to relieve themselves and they say that likely contributed to the erosion. It happened at about 5 30 last night at the lancaster fairgrounds. That about 90 miles north of the State Capitol in concord. The first of two schedules shows was beginning when that tent collapsed. About 100 people were inside at the time. People part of the circus just said run. In the same motion i see stakes and stuff coming up out of the ground. And next thing the tent is coming up and over. The National Weather service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the area during the time of the collapse. People attending the circus say it was sunny and clear when they went in and that the storm seemed to come out of nowhere. Winds swept through that area at 60 miles an hour. Time is 6 24. Now we have new information about the deaths of two base jumper. They slammed into a ridge line going 100 miles an hour. The National Park Service Investigators say their deaths were accidents. There are several possible contributing factors including indecision, being distracted, miscalculating, and air turbulence. Each month it seems like the lows are staying warmer and warmer. These are just blowing off. Which is heading toward the Hawaiian Islands. We have two systems this week. One today and one on friday. An warm water temps that is really contributing to the over night lows being so mild. The great news for the firefighters the humidity is up and the lows are way down. 51. 47 knoxville creek. A Homicide Investigation is under way right now in hayward. Right near Mount Eden High School. Ktvu fox 2 allie rasmus has been out there since early this morning. What is happening out there now . Reporter just within the last 15 minutes Hayward Police opened up the streets around the intersection where this investigation was centered. This is morning side. Right now you can see a couple investigators still here on the scene. It looks like one of them has a metal detector and spent the last five minutes going through that roped off area behind the crime scene tape at this intersection. Apparently looking for something or trying to find more evidence related to this investigation. Morning side is a very residential neighborhood. Off to the right is his parian boulevard. Now the coroners van left the scene here about 30 minutes ago. Police arent giving us too much information about this. What we do know is a detective before he left the scene confirmed there is a Homicide Investigation that is going on here. The circumstances of it the victim we dont know any of that information right now. But police say they are going to provide some of that in a written statement. Several neighbors told us they heard 45 gunshots early this morning. Before 1 00. But we thought it was a fire work. So i just woke up when all the Police Lights reflection in my room. Reporter and that neighbor also told us Police Investigators came to her door, told her someone had been shot. They were trying to see if there were any witnesses or residents in the area who had more information. She also said she saw investigators place a body in a stretcher covered up into the coroners van. Neighbors also mentioned hearing gunshots is typical. They were loud enough to wake them up a. This is four to five people we talked to. And they also said that some mentioned its so unusual they thought it was fire crackers in the air. But we have confirmed Hayward Police were investigating a homicide that happened here at the intersection of morning side and our very residential neighborhood. They just took down the crime scene tape when they were bringing this live story to you. It looks like the few investigators that were out there are heading out there. We are expecting to get a little more information from Hayward Police by a written statement. Dave, back to you. Its been six long days for firefighters in lake county. That fire has grown every day. Slow patrol guess but progress nonetheless pam. Any increase in containment percentage is certainly welcome news. We are expecting updated numbers from cal fire later this morning. Roughly around 7 00 when we have that morning briefing. As we go to video this fire has proved to be aggressive and stubborn. As we take a look at the aerial video we can see how intense the flames are. At this point the fire has grown to 62,000 acres. Roughly 96 square miles and only 12 contained. We understand fire crews will gather for their morning briefing at 7 00. Hopefully there is better new there is. We understand that the fire did jump a fire containment line set up along highway 20. Yesterday firefighters focused on putting out the spot fires that jumped the highway. And according to cal fire 6300 homes are threatened. 24 homes burned. 13,000 people have been evacuated so far and for many we spoke with this fire is down right scary. Im overwhelmed. I cant believe that it was i was very happy at one point. And then all of a sudden it just flaired up. Sod then all of it doubling or tripling. Its been very scary. And just through moments ago we understand the acreage has increased to 65,000 acres. Still at 12 containment. Firefighters say the fire is burning at a high intensity. A lot of the vegetation as we heard out there its described as very dense. This is an area that has not seen fire for many years or never at all. Its also very dry as a result of the fire. Four air tankers and 19 helicopters are being used to fight this fire. There is a bit of a Silver Lining cooler temperatures, higher humidity certainly helping firefighters battle the huge wild fire out there. But the rocky fire guys just one of 25 fires burning throughout the state of california and were only in the month of august. September, october that is the heart of the fire season. And they will delay school up there. And all the people effected up there. Yeah thousands of people effected and hopefully we will get better numbers be you said the briefing 7 00 a. M. Roughly around 7 00. We just heard the acreage has increased to 65,000 acres. Hopefully it slows down a little bit. But slow progress at this point. But hopefully they will be making greater progress throughout the day. Thank you, brian. The rocky fires are reminding people of a the worst fire in lake county. It burned over 83,000acres. Santa clara county judge handed down the minimum sentence on Involuntary Manslaughter charges. Carpenter raul died back in 2012. He was buried by a wall of dirt where lous company was building a mansion. That happened three days after City Building inspectors red tagged the project following heavy rains. In San Francisco some ideas posting signs around russian hill warning that women are being assaulted in that area. Take a look here. Hours after he will be taken to Oakland International airport he will be reunited with the special olympic committee. He will be putting him back on a flight back to albania. A 15yearold special olympic athlete from the ivory coast went missing in southern california. The tennis table player went missing from lax. He was eventually found yesterday afternoon. Oakland Police Confirmed the shooting at the Oakland Airport hilton involved deputies from the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Department. According to investigators deputies arrived at the hotel last night to serve a subpoena to a man who had a warrant. There was an altercation in the parking lot. The man pulled a gun on the deputy. That is when investigators opened fire. His condition is not known at this time. Our time is 6 46. The longtime morgan hill teacher will spend 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to molesting some of his students in his classroom. 53yearold john lloyd agreed to plead guilty to the charges as part of a plea deal. All four of the victim were in the fifth grade. The the deal came just nine months after lloyd was arrested at Paradise Valley elementary school. He will not be eligible for parole. Senate democrats blocked a bill that would have stripped federal funding to planned parenthood. House republicans were trying to cut the funding in wake of a hidden camera scandal that showed how the agency provided fetal tissue. They claimed that parented parenthood was selling fetal tissue which is illegal. The truth is the republicans and extreme allies have been out to get planned parenthood for decades. The only thing that changes is their tactics. Planned parenthood received up to 500 million per year in medicaid contributions and up to 60 million in federal Planning Services but u. S.
