Maybe about 200 feet in front of us here. Were near the hyde street offramp here on southbound 880. As we mentioned, traffic has been very heavy stemming from this earlier fatality. A young woman according to the chp was killed earlier this morning. The last of the cars was removed roughly around ten minutes ago. Want to go to video of when we arrived on scene, it involved three cars, actually four cars this morning. The chp says a Hyundai Sonata or some type of sedan was stalled in the number two lane. The young woman driving in a red honda civic tried to serve out of the way but was broadsided by the driver of a subaru. Shortly after that, her car caught on fire. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver was taken to the hospital as whats being described as minor injuries. Chp says there was a white pickup truck that also tried to swerve out of the way. Clipped the red car as well. No injuries to the driver and passenger in that car. But in terms of traffic this morning, it was a mess southbound 880. It remains a mess. Here is an update from chp who we talked to moments ago. The vehicle was stalled in the number 2 lane. The red car, which you see behind us, severe rv severe eved swerved. Reporter it remains unclear how the hyundai stalled in the number 2 lane. As we take it back out here live. Want to show you the traffic from southbound 880 near the hyde street offramp. The chp opened up the second lane about 20 minutes ago. Still unclear when all lanes will be open here. But as we mentioned, the koeferlry ner koesh coroner just arrived. Sometimes caltrans may need to come to look at the damage. There doesnt seem to be damage to the guardrail. Eastbound 580 is the best way to get around the problem. Go on eastbound 580. Even if they were to get this out of the way. Southbound 880 is gonna take a while to unwind here. Lets take a look at 880 near the coliseum. Northbound we have an earlier backup. People are slowing to take a look at whats going on on the other side of the road. Lets get to other traffic issues. 101 in san jose is slow as it normally is. 280 near 17 and 85. But thats more normal traffic. 880 from hayward to fremont is normal and the dumbarton bridge and the san mateo bridge traffic is gonna look pretty typical heading west. 7 05, back to the desk. Also following developing news. That grass fire that started near highway 24 and la fayette, what were showing you here is time lapse video of the fire that started three hours ago. There is no longer a threat to any of the homes here in la fayette. Good morning. Thats the good news here. Firefighters tell me they are close to having this fire fully contained. The fire is no longer spreading but you can see a lot of work that has to go on this charred hillside in la fayette. A number of firefighters out here from contra costa fire, also from calfire as well working on a lot of the hot spots in this area. The latest estimate we got on acreage is that this fire is now stands at about eight acres. Thats the newest estimate that we have from the fire marshal. This morning the big concern was just how close the flames were coming to this particular home. This is on deer hill road. The people who live in the home had to be evacuated in the middle of the night. They were able to make it out and their home was saved by firefighters. This fire break out before 4 00 this morning. Again, deer hill road, close to Pleasant Hill road. It was burning on the hillside burning north of highway 4. The good thing was this morning early on, the winds were very light. This fire didnt spread as quick little as it might otherwise have. Still, the flames did force that family out of their home this morning. Their 13yearold son, jack, well, he was the one who hey learted who was alerted to the fire. He was up playing video games and smelled smoke. Got things under control pretty quickly considering it was scarily when we were asked to leave the house. Two fires along the ridgeline and now its under control, hopefully. Our main concern is that the wind it gonna start to pick up. You can already start to feel in. Thats gonna be our main concern. Early on, the big concern was how close the fire came to one home in particular. That family, the only family evacuated this morning, they are getting set to go back into their home and gasia, firefighters will tray to figure out how this brush fire started this morning. We should point out it started off deer hill food road. They are looking at whether this was human caused, whether something was tossed. We should get that answer today. Thank you. A few minutes ago we were told the it fire is 80 contain and is and is more than 7,000 acres large. More than 130 homes are under a mandatory evacuation order. Fire crews battling the lowell fire are concerned about the extreemgly hot weather and low humidity over the next few days. That makes it harder to fight flareups. People have been warned they may need to evacuate. 2300 acres have been burned. Were expecting an update on the acreage bushed on the lowell fire later this morning. The people of hayward will have a chance to say fare well to Police Sergeant scott lunger. He was shot and killed wednesday morning during a traffic stop. There are private viewings for family members and friends earlier in the day. Tomorrow morning, a public funeral for Sergeant Lunger will be held at oracle arena in oakland. The release of the videos are in response to growing conspiracy theories about how she died earlier this month. As our reporter reports, those rumors have led to Death Threats against county officials. Reporter texas authorities now on rumor patrol fighting back with the release of several hours in new jail footage showing sandra bland during her three days there. They are doing so to dispel conspiracies that she was dead before arriving at the jail. The reason were doing this because of the misinformation put out both through social media and through mainstream video thats led to the rumors that sandra bland was in some way deceased or harmed. Reporter the judge says the allegations have prompted Death Threats against county officials. Some of them serious enough to be turned over to the fbi. Reporter the latest footage details the 28yearolds first hours at the Waller County jail on july 10th. She is seen being taken out of the patrol car, questioned by an official and then briefly placed in a holding cell before getting her mugshot taken. Portions of the video show her making her first phone call and going before the judge. They dont have video of what happened to her at the moment of her death, and they are wasting their time. Reporter bland was arrested for allegedly assaulting a Police Officer during a routine traffic stop. Federal officials want to know why an Allegiant Airlines plane with enough fly three more minutes chose to land at an airport aways away. The airport closed the runway for a blue angels flight. You see the Alameda County coroners van is there. The cars have been taken away. Two lanes are getting through. Someone sent us a picture of the cars on fire as they drove by. Pretty bad when you consider that it was such a violent wreck that all three cars at one point were on fire. Southbound 880 just before high street. Its a terrible wreck. One person lost their life. Lets talk about the backup. Its still backed up all the way out to downtown oakland. Its not a freeway i would recommend. Use eastbound 580 if you want to go to the airport. Other than that, go all the way out on 580 to 238. Other traffic commutes, the bay bridge, thats backed up for about a 15, 20minute delay before you make it onto the span. Lets go back to the desk. Were still following developing news of that Early Morning grass fire right out there in la fayette. Fire crews, you see them in the hills theyve stopped the fire from gaining more ground. No homes are threatened anymore. Earlier this morning it was a lot different. We were watching the flames race. One home had to evacuate. It actually pushed into the regional park. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Firefighters are on the scene. Ktvu fox 2s alex savidge who has been out there since 4 00 this morning, he will give us another update coming up in 30 minutes. Well, the weather conditions and a drone caused problems for firefighters in another part of the east bay yesterday. The fire broke out at the Camp Parks Army reserve base in dublin, right about noontime. You see that plume of black smoke. It was scene for miles. Local and state and federal firefighters thought they had the flames under control. But that quickly changed. The wind picked up and it blew the fire out behind them and took off again. It burned about 250 acres before the fire crews got to the flames the flames under control. Firefighting aircraft were about to stop airdrops but they noticed a drone was hovering overhead. They had to pull the aircraft out of the fire zone. Getting the airspace of the helicopters of the aircraft it can cause disaster. It turns out there were two drones. Not just one. One of the operators was found and told to leave that area. He was not cited. The other drone operator was not located. The cause of the fire is still under under still under investigation. Were expecting to hear from the santa cruz District Attorney on the investigation into the killing of 8yearold Maddy Middleton. Com. Thank you. Caltrain service was shut down for about an hour last night after a man was hit by a train in san bruno. This happened after 10 00 p. M. This was a picture sent to us. It shows crews responding to the incident. San mateo county transit leaders say the man was on the tracks illegally when he was hit. No word on the mans injuries but the incident is under investigation. A mistrial has been declared in the penalty phase of the trial for the man convicted of killing a Police Officer. Last week, Henry Albert Smith junior was convicted of murder with specialcircumstances. A judge declared a mistrial because one of the jurors is moving out of the state and there are no more alternate jurors. A new jury will be seated to decide the penalty phase beginning august 31st. Things are back to normal at sfo after an unattended suitcase caused a partial closure of the International Terminal yesterday afternoon. The suitcase was hitting on the upper level by the curb. The Police Response led to the closure of six ticket counters in the terminal. The airport b. A. R. T. Station and access roads from highway 101 were closed. That bag was safely removed in less than an hour and then the terminal reopened. The city of richmond has scheduled a special meeting for next mo monday to finalize a new rent control ordinance. A judge in santa monica will set a date by the end of the week for bill cosby to give a deposition in a civil lawsuit. Now, the suit is filed by a woman who accuses cosby of molesting her when she was just 15 years old. The womans attorney, gloria allred, says it happened inside the playboy mansion 40 years ago. The statute of limitations has ran out for a cil case. But california passed a law in 1990 that allows allegations of underage sexual abuse to be made in civil suits even years later. Gloria allred represents 17 cosby accusers and said the judge ordered that the deposition be given under oath no later than september 30th. Well hear more about that. And there is a war now between republicans and the house of representatives. North carolina congressman mark meadows is trying to unseat john boehner. Meadows entered a resolution to vacate the chair yesterday. He accused boehner of trying to consolidate power and bypassing the majority of congress. Sources say meadows could ask for a vote on the motion by the end of the week. A new program in vallejo honors the first firefighter killed in the line of duty in that city 35 years ago. Still, the flames came very close to one home and the people who live there, a family, a mother, father and their son had to be evacuateled. That 13yearold boy well, he told me he was up playing video games earlier this morning and smelled smoke and told his parents about the fire. What was it that alerted you to it. Smoke. Moving okay, though, on the southbound direction this morning but the chp says the Investigation Continues into this fatal accident this morning. The tragic result, one woman was killed. This happened before 5 00 this morning. The chp says a Hyundai Sonata of the driver the driver of that car stalled in the number 2 lane. This was off high street. Near the high street offramp on southbound 880. The chp says it might have been coasting which is raising questions if there was some type of mechanical failure. That remains under investigation but they say a 38 yearold woman driving in a red honda civic tried to swerve away from the stalled car. She was sideways in the fast lane when broadsided by the driver of a subaru and was also hit we another pickup dash hit by another hit by near pickup truck. The impact was so intense that the woman who tried to swerve died from the impact. There was a blew subaru that collided with that blue subaru that collided with that vehicle and killed the driver.
