If onshore breeze is generally a little bit lighter today and will weaken gradually as we make our way into tomorrow. And thursday. This will allow some of our temperatures to actually warm a little bit further in the next couple of days. So expect more of those 80s, especially for inland areas. Temperatures right now in the 40s to 50s santa rosa down at 49 degrees. Nevado a cool 50 oakland and alameda at 53 currently later on today. We do have another day of low 80s for inland areas and some low to mid 70s along bayshore. Certainly not bad with most of our fog clearing by middle of the morning of more on your forecast. All right, john, thank you for that. Well, in the east bay, a man was convicted of killing a woman whose remains are found in alameda last summer. Alameda County District attorney announced yesterday afternoon that Joseph Robert was found guilty of seconddegree murder in the death of rachael buckner. Robert buckner was from pleasanton. Body was found dismembered along the shoreline of Bay Farm Island last summer. Police say butner roberts live together at the time of her death. We dont have any word yet on when roberts will be sentenced. And victor killer Scott Petersons defense team, theyre trying to get him a new trial by gathering evidence. But the status la County DistrictAttorneys Office is now opposing that motion los angeles Innocence Project representing peterson and they want to dna test a rope and a stolen van that was burned right near the petersons home around the time of his wife, laci went missing. The das office is asking the judge to deny the motion because of all the evidence that was previously used to convict peterson. Peterson was convicted in 2004 of the murder of his wife, laci and their unborn child. Peterson has maintained his innocence. He is serving life in prison. Over the weekend. Customers at a San Francisco cafe stopped a man from taking off with the womans laptop before sara stinson spoke with one of the people prevented that from happening. Police say a man ran into this cafe, grabbed a laptop and ran right outside was a man named henry flynn who tackled the alleged thief to the ground and held him there until police arrived. Security cameras thankfully cut the whole thing on video. Unfortunately, we did not get permission to use it. It literally felt like everyone inside the cafe was screaming. Henry flynn was enjoying a cup of coffee outside sanaa cafe saturday evening when he says he saw a man running out with a laptop. Flynn works as a security guard. So he says it fell natural to take matters into his own hands. I saw someone running out with a hood. With a laptop in the right hand, almost like a Football Player would run with the football. I think the momentum of him running in the opposite direction of my arm, pushing him in another direction, made him stumble over towards one of the cars. That was part. And then i had the ability to jump on top of him. But the alternative, you know, we can we can eliminate our expansion health care. We can eliminate. Wages we can limit. We do furloughs into layoffs. We can do a lot of things i want to do those things. But for those who local Public Health departments. They say the proposed cuts will Impact Services across the board. Health professionals worry cuts could ultimately hurt efforts to prepare for a future. Public Health Emergency detrimental. Again, were moving backwards. The bottom line is that if we lose this funding, people will lose their jobs and work will not get done. In a statement, democratic senator Caroline Manzo part of the San Fernando Valley blasted newsoms budget writing do not be deceived. These are not just cuts to administrative costs. These draconian cuts have real life and death consequences and will push our most vulnerable children. Families, an aging californians into homelessness and starvation. But her fellow newsome is taking 12 billion dollars from the states reserves. They make clear the state will still have at least half of its Rainyday Fund left for future years. Keeping Core Services and tact. Thats newsoms key message on what he considers some of the positives of this budget proposal. Noting it invest in services for public safety, education and housing and homelessness. People want they want to see results. The republicans argue newsom could have avoided this entire situation committed to spending less and saving more in previous years. Police officers noticed the motor home parked a shopping center. Coleman boulevard. They ran the plates and found it had been reported stolen by concord police. Police later found the driver of the motor home had 3 warrants. He was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County jail. Now the motor home was told and returned to the owner. 5 people, including 4 children, tried to run off with the cash register. Our top story this morning, 4 people are displaced after a fire breaks out last night at a buddhist temple in san jose. Will tran live in san jose with the latest on that will. So what are you learning . Well, right now im im in front of the temple of the flames are out. Heres what you need to know. You can see the roof there. You can see from the bottom through it as the fire ripped through the temple. This is located on the 97 100 block fosse avenue, which is basically off of alum rock Avenue Office 6. 80, and you can clearly see the damage, jain and defense right in front of it. Investigators will be back out a little bit later this morning to find out the cause of the fire. Now, let me show you pictures. It broke out at around 8 oclock last night. And as you mentioned, for people displaced, they were the 4 people inside and any time a fire happens at a religious structure, they have to investigate whether or not it was a hate crime early on, according to the san jose fire department. They dont believe this was a hate crime. But of course, this is very early on in the investigation. This rose to a 3 alarm fire, which means that at some point they actually had to call for backup. More firefighters got to the scene. They were able to knock down the flames and then they stayed here very late into the night to make sure the hot spots throughout, which is why they left in the overnight hours. They are not here. Another big story were following. Thieves are targeting cars and sam, a tail and not just any car. And this all happened last week between thursday and saturday. All reports of car breakins and Officials Say the thieves are stealing Steering Wheel parts that contain driver airbags. Take a look. Its known danger closing for good for nearly 50 years settles a museum of quilting textiles and showcase are from all over the region and around the world. But as kron jack moment tells us museum is racing against the clock to keep their doors open. Were the first museum in the country to focus on tax arts and thats a very, very unique bureau of other museums along the south side of san joses downtown. It may be easy to but i think were really incredible resource for the community. But for San Jose Museum of, quote, an textiles director, chris johnson, his museum, its above its weight class. Come here to this wheezing, youll see kind of the extent of what could be done with fibers. We like the future, our local artists here because we have. Well, the San Francisco bay ferry says it has broken a ridership record. The services after the pandemic, their morning commute ridership is gonna at more than 2300 riders a day last week. Well, the big jump on the oakland route. Thursday is bike to work every day in San Francisco. May be a National Bike month. San francisco Bicycle Coalition will have citywide rides at a rally at city hall. They will start at 07 30am, in the morning with rides in Golden Gate Park along the embarcadero among other spots. All the rides are going in at a rally on the steps of city hall around 9 that morning. And theres a major setback in the effort to stop public money going towards the stadium in vegas. Proposed ballot measure written by the Nevada Teachers Union will not be appearing in the next election. Covered in kerman explains why. When the battle lawmakers approve spending 380 Million Dollars in public money to help fund a stadium in las vegas last june. The Nevada Teachers Union took steps to reverse that decision by putting the issue to a public vote. This november. Now that wont happen. The Nevada Supreme Court upheld a Lower Court Ruling that the proposed ballot measure was not written correctly and petition signatures cannot be gathered until its read and to comply with state law fighting billionaires is never easy. This is just minor setback. Alexander marks with the Teachers Union schools over stadium says the ruling means the measure wont appear on this novembers ballot because now there are only 44 days left to rewrite the petition and then collect the 102,000 signatures with no state elections in 2025. That means the next chance for a public vote is november of 2026. But schools over stadiums remains undeterred. This still remains incredibly unpopular locally. Its still under water. 20 . You know, preventing the teachers from going out there ensure every student has a highquality Public Education is probably not going help with their polling either. But, you know, we we remain committed to try and help fix the misguided priorities of the state. So not much has really changed. In a statement, the attorney who represents the Coalition Opposing the ballot measure, which includes the as, was pleased with the ruling saying all nevadans have a right to participate in direct democracy, but they need to observe the laws that require properly informing the voters of a proposal. This measure failed to do that. All they did was delay if they were hoping for a quick decision and calling it a day and saying that they want thats not what they got today as part of a 2 pronged attack, schools over stadiums has sued the state of nevada saying the passage of that funding measure violates nevada state constitution.
